The Boeing Company is looking for an Experienced Human Factors Flight Test Engineer to join our team in Seattle, WA. We're looking for engineers who can function in a dynamic and exciting flight test environment. The successful Flight Test Human Factors team member has a passion for aviation and enjoys working with a team of pilots, engineers, and customers who share that same passion. Our engineers plan and implement testing of Boeing commercial and military derivative aircraft in order to assure product safety, performance, and regulatory certification. Our engineers perform functions like test planning, configuration control, test conduct, as well as data collection and analysis. This position is primarily for 1st shift; however, periodic shift change may be required to support program objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports the development and verification of test methods
  • Develops detailed test procedures and configuration definition needed to perform the test and minimize risk within the constraints of the test plan
  • Collaborating with pilots, designers, and systems engineers to ensure flight deck interfaces and flight management automation complements the cognitive, physical, sensory, and ergonomic capabilities of our pilots
  • Conducting and implementing user evaluations and testing in state-of-the-art full-flight simulators and flight test airplanes
  • Developing and implementing Human Factors processes in support of compliance activities and interacting with regulatory bodies, both domestic and international.
  • Applying Human Factors methodologies and best practices to develop, evaluate, analyze, test, and support the cognitive, interactive, ergonomic, and behavioral attributes of Boeing Aircraft.
  • Uses analytical tools to verify the design
  • Analyzes, processes, and formats data to customer requirements
  • Reviews test data, including off-nominal data, for accuracy, quality and/or fidelity prior to delivery to customer
  • Prepares and publishes test reports to document test results and satisfy requirements
  • Presents test results internally
  • Archives data and reports
  • Trains others
  • Works under general direction


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes , lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Experience working in airplane testing and/or flight deck design


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience in Human Factors Engineering
  • Experience as a pilot
  • Experience with one or more of the following areas: aircraft test design/planning, test execution, operation of airplane systems, test article configuration control, aircraft safety protocols, data collection and analysis, and/or airplane maintenance practices
  • Project management experience and ability to support multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse engineering team in order to establish a consensus on complex technical issues.


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
