Metriguard designs and manufactures machines that test, parameterize, and grade dimension lumber and wood veneer. These machines are instrumented with sensitive transducers and are controlled by advanced digital electronics.

Location

Metriguard employs about 25 people at our modern office and manufacturing facility in Pullman, Washington. We are a city of 33,000 people located in the beautiful rolling wheat fields of eastern Washington, about 70 miles south of Spokane, Washington. Pullman is home to Washington State University and neighbor to nearby University of Idaho.

Position Description

This full-time position is principally located in Pullman and includes occasional travel to various customer locations worldwide. Compensation is dependent on qualifications and experience, and, after a provisional period, includes vacation, medical, and 401k benefits.

Duties:

Design and develop new mechanical systems incorporating off-the shelf hydraulic, pneumatic, and other mechanical components into mechanical packages for industrial equipment.

Mechanical part/assembly design on existing machinery to solve problems and provide additional features.

Work with other engineers to integrate mechanical, electrical, and software designs.

Conduct and participate in engineering design reviews.

Create, review, and manage documentation for manufacturing, testing, operation, and maintenance, including maintenance and operation manuals as well as parts manuals.

Support manufacturing, sales and service personnel.

Install and test new designs.

Communicate with customers and travel to customer locations for machinery testing and service.

Other tasks as needed to design and support Metriguard products.

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Proficient with SolidWorks design software.

Proficiency with 2D AutoCAD.

Proficiency with PC applications including MS Excel and MS Word programs.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability and desire to create, maintain, and manage product documentation.

Ability to handle simultaneously a variety of projects and requirements.

Ability to work independently and to complete all assignments with minimal supervision.

Familiarity with a variety of manufacturing processes and procedures.

Legally qualified to live and work in the U.S. on a permanent basis.

Work full-time in Pullman, Washington.

Ability and willingness to travel domestically and globally (U.S. passport required).

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in additional engineering disciplines such as electrical or software.

Experience in sawmill and/or veneer producing processes and equipment.

Training in and/or experience in the following areas:

Industrial machinery design.

Hydraulic and pneumatic system design.

Stress and vibration analysis.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Product lifecycle maintenance (PLM)

SolidWorks PDM

Failure and fatigue analysis.

Programming experience, including VBA, C/C, and/or scripting tools.

Detail-oriented with the ability to learn new subjects quickly.

Ability to work closely with others in a cooperative environment.

Training in and/or experience with all of the positions listed duties.
