Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is hiring a Field Technician who specializes in construction. If you are looking for an opportunity to utilize your experience in this trade and have a passion for providing exceptional customer service, then this position is for you!
This position is located in Pullman, WA and will require traveling up to 75% of the time. In this role you will be working in a small team to support field construction work for customers on-site in all regions of the US. Travel may be for 2-3 weeks at a time followed by a week back in Pullman to prepare for future site work. Occasional travel to other SEL office both domestically and abroad may be required for training purposes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide installation, preventative maintenance, and basic repair of equipment on location at client sites.
Record and submit project summaries, field service reports, discrepancy reports and other forms of technical writing.
Assist in review of provided electrical and mechanical drawings to support project installation and testing requirement
Safely utilize standard construction hand and power tools
Wire and terminate cables, termination cabinets and low voltage components per IPC standards
Adhere to and maintain all safety training and PPE requirements for field and substation work
Understand, create, and simplify
Other duties as assigned
2 years experience in construction industry (various trades are acceptable)
Operate field construction equipment such as a boom lift, a man lift or a fork lift
Must possess a valid states drivers license in good standing
Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
Willingness to travel 75%
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)
Previous experience working in active electrical substations
Knowledge of the electrical system and protection of electrical power systems
Knowledge of protection IEDs
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
