Facebook Reality Labs Research (FRL Research) brings together a world-class R&D team of researchers, developers, and engineers with the shared goal of developing AR and VR across the spectrum. The Surreal Vision research group at FRL Research is seeking exceptional engineers and technical leads to solve the next generation of research challenges on the path to building future machine perception enabled technologies. We are looking for talented engineers to architect and develop Project Aria, our next generation research device, to understand the world from a human's perspective and build experiences for the next generation AR glasses.

  • Plan and execute engineering development to advance the state-of-the-art in machine perception research for localization, mapping, and Contextualized AI in AR/VR systems
  • Collaborate closely with researchers, engineers and product managers across both machine and human perception teams at Facebook to design, architect and implement prototypes
  • Work closely with software engineers on the Aria device OS, companion app and backend teams to design and implement solutions across various subsystems
  • Prototype multi-user, distributed systems that scale across embedded devices to cloud services


  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or related technical fiel
  • 5+ years of experience engineering in C or Python
  • 2+ years of experience developing and prototyping Computer Vision technologies and systems on mobile platforms: SLAM, Sensor fusion, Object recognition, Scene understanding, etc


  • MS or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Robotics or related technical field
  • 2+ years of industry experience working on projects in real-time SLAM, sensor fusion, object and body tracking and/or pose estimation or large scale training and evaluation of deep convolutional and/or recurrent neural networks
  • Experience with CPU/GPU/DSP for mobile optimization
  • Publication track record at conferences such as CVPR, NIPS, ECCV, ICCV, ISMAR, ICML, ICLR, MLSys etc
