About this role

Data Platform Solutions(DPS) is responsible for building and delivering solutions and data insight for all investment and risk management needs of BlackRock, BlackRock Solutions and our clients. We are a strong practitioner of Agile Delivery principles and organized as three primary functions: Data Operations, Data Solutions and DataOps Engineering. This role will sit under Data Operations.

Job Purpose/Background:

This is an opportunity to join as a senior leader within the DataOps team in Seattle. The individual will involve working with multiple teams across DPS to devise and execute on a comprehensive data observability solution. The scope covers all data types, associated data pipelines, application and infrastructure components. The goal is to provide a real-time assessment of our data operations. Our operations should be alerted to meaningful events such as: unexpected failures, upstream delays, missing data, performance degradation etc. Over a period of time, one should use the historic metrics thus captured and apply machine learning techniques to predict downtime, delays and disruptions before they happen. Insights from historical data should also enable one to put in proactive remediation measures. The person will also provide leadership to the Seattle team and handle any people, partner or customer concerns. The role will also help build and retain talent through office-level and global talent management practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a Data Observability strategy and roadmap for Data Operations encompassing all data sets and data pipelines
  • Lead build vs. buy decision on tools, partner with in-house engineering teams on custom build
  • Deploy tools across our ecosystem and train operators to optimally use the tools to conduct operations seamlessly
  • Establish a store of metrics and use the metrics to implement incident avoidance strategies
  • Contribute to thought leadership on evolution of the Data management ecosystem and capabilities
  • Create connectivity between global functions and regional business
  • Represent the Seattle Data Operations team in senior partner meetings, in particular to capture feedback and pro-actively engage the team in discussions relating to service level and challenges, plus, be able to highlight to functional owners needs associated with new products


Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:
  • 15+ years in a large Data platforms and operations setup with direct experience of using technology and self-service capabilities to scale operations
  • Expertise building and deploying data observability tools in hybrid cloud, distributed architectures, multi-tenant architectures
  • Experience of engaging with senior internal clients and partners to develop positive relationships for the benefit of the distributed team and business
  • Ability to operate in a fast paced environment with frequent senior management Interactions
  • Experience in asset management or capital markets industry is a plus!
