DESCRIPTION

EC2 Nitro drives the planet's largest, fastest growing and most feature-rich compute cloud. Nitro is AWS's ground-up design for virtualization at global scale built on a fully custom stack of hardware, firmware and applications. Nitro has enabled EC2 to support Intel, AMD and Amazon's custom silicon - Graviton2 - while raising the industry bar for security and performance across our product line.

EC2 Shepherd is a sub team within EC2 Nitro organization and looking for a Software Development Engineer to join our two pizza team.

Our team owns a handful of internal products that manage the deployment experience and release safety for entire EC2 organization. With more than 19 geographic regions and 57 availability zones, some as large as 300,000 servers, this is no small task. Our main goal is to make our production deployments safer while enabling teams to move faster through our full CD initiatives. Our services play a major role in keeping EC2 fleets as performant they are for our customers. Our team thrives to learn new things and expand our knowledge to meet varying business demands. On any given day, we use Java, Kotlin, React, Lambda, DynamoDB, Coral services and AWS step functions as well as other public AWS services and Amazon-internal tools. We don't expect you to be an expert in, or necessarily even be familiar with, all of the technologies listed above, but we do expect you to be excited about learning them.

This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don't like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so we don't get paged for the same issue twice.

Our team is dedicated to supporting new team members. We are mostly mid-level engineers who enjoy helping and growing junior engineers through one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews.

We take code reviews seriously. We believe that good code reviews raise our code quality, grow our technical acumen, and provide opportunity to support and share knowledge with each other.

We care about your career growth. We try to assign projects and tasks based on what will help each team member develop into a more well-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.

Our team is family-oriented and values work life balance. Most days, our team is co-located in Seattle Re:Invent office, but we are also flexible when people occasionally need to work from home. We generally keep core in-office hours from 10am-4pm. Team has full flexibility to come in earlier or leave later.

The majority of our team has been together for year and a half, and we have developed a strong sense of team trust during that time. We are looking for a new team mate who us enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated and reliable; someone who will help us build on the positive team culture we have been cultivating.
