The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Mid-Level Environmental Engineer and Scientist to join the team in Tukwila, WA.

The Environmental, Health and Safety team is seeking a Mid-Level Environmental Engineer/Scientist to support 737 Airplane Program and Boeing Defense, Space & Security (Puget Sound) operations. This environmental engineering group works across multiple environmental subject areas (for example, air quality, stormwater, hazardous waste, solid waste, industrial wastewater, spill prevention, and underground storage tanks), and supports conservation/sustainability initiatives as well as regulatory compliance. This position will be based in Tukwila and involve local travel to support operations at Renton, North Boeing Field (Seattle), and other nearby sites.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Implement and be responsible for the industrial stormwater program at several aerospaces manufacturing facilities and flight lines, including five industrial stormwater general permits and construction stormwater permits as needed (Tukwila, Seattle, and Kent)
  • Work with local, regional, and state environmental regulatory agencies
  • Support our site's ISO-14001 certified Environmental Management Systems (EMS), lead environmental processes and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Boeing policies, and provide access to site operations and EHS - Environment leadership
  • Collaborate with site operations leadership and other Boeing organizations to identify and minimize environmental risks associated with facility projects and operations
  • Provide occasional environmental support to other Boeing operations in the local area
  • Collaborate with other Boeing environmental engineers regionally and nationally to identify and replicate standard methodologies to support compliance, regulatory risk reduction, and conservation initiatives
  • See opportunities to support sustainability by reducing hazardous waste, solid waste, water consumption and energy/greenhouse gas


This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. With potential to do telecommuting (on-site/virtual) in the future.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes , lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelors degree or higher
  • Experience in Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS)


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience supporting military customers on programs


Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

You will also work collaboratively with manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and service providers on the development, prototype, and production of electronic assemblies. Additionally, you will develop Blue Origin standard drawing notes corresponding to this hardware. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required! Minimum Qualifications B.S. degree or higher in engineering - material science & engineering strongly preferred. At least 2 years of professional work experience in a related industry. Industry experience developing and producing printed wiring boards (PWB), controllers, circuit card assemblies (CCA), cables, and harnesses. Experience in applying commercial and military specifications and standards related to printed wiring assembly (PWA), controllers, cables and harnesses. Ability to travel up to 15% of the time. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Preferred Qualifications Ability to participate in multidisciplinary rapid problem-solving activities and propose solutions to prototype and production manufacturing challenges. (i.e., design for manufacturability). Expertise in applying relevant commercial and military specifications and standards, such as IPC (institute of Printed Circuits) standards related to PWA, CCA, cables and harnesses, and soldering. Knowledge of solder, encapsulants, staking compounds, plating, and conformal coatings callout on drawings for electronic assemblies. Experience in evaluating material/part/assembly analysis of PWB, CCA, electronic assemblies, cable and harnesses both non-destructively and destructively. Experience in Tin whisker, red plague, and corrosion mitigation of PWB, CCA, electronic assemblies, cable and harnesses.
