Athletic Trainer

Under the general direction of the District Director of Athletics, the Athletic Trainer provides a comprehensive sports medicine program that assists student-athletes, coaching staff, and athletics staff, coordinates treatment, and arranges medical evaluations and assessments as needed. The position provides direct evaluative and rehabilitative care to the student­ athletes and manages all required record-keeping. The position serves as a vital member of the District Athletics team. Regular and consistent attendance is required.

The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for the following but not limited to:

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop overall sports medicine program for Pierce College's athletic programs, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols for all student-athletes.

Provide athletic training services for the athletic department by conducting training room hours at the Fort Steilacoom and Puyallup Health Education Centers and attendance at scheduled team practices and all home competitions.

Accompany athletic teams on trips to away contests and tournaments, as assigned.

Coordinate and schedule physical examinations, health screening activities, and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.

Work with the coaching staff to ensure safety in designing and implementing a comprehensive, holistic health program for student-athletes, including fitness and conditioning, mental, emotional, and nutritional well-being, customized to meet individual needs.

Maintain current and develop new relationships with the local medical community.

Assist the Athletic Director in the development of the Sports Medical Program budget.

Maintain comprehensive recordkeeping and documentation.

Coordinate the submission of and monitor the status of all injury insurance claims.

Maintain current emergency action plans for all sports at all facilities. Train athletic department staff and coaches to ensure effective implementation and response.

Provide First Aid, CPR, and AED instruction to coaches and staff

Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that will enhance the benefit of the sports medicine program.

Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions.

Comply with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes, and collective bargaining agreements.

Education Required

Bachelor's degree in Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, or Physical Therapy

Experience Required

One (1) year of professional experience in an educational setting.

Experience using Microsoft Office products proficiently.

Special Requirements

The successful candidate must consent to and pass a criminal background check after a conditional offer of employment.

Ability to move up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.

Must possess a valid Washington driver's license upon hire.

Must hold advanced First Aid, CPR, and BLS certifications.

Current State Athletic Training Licensure.

Current standing with the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) for continuing education.
