Assistant Innkeeper

The Blue Goose Inn B&B in Coupeville is seeking a part-time assistant Innkeeper/manager. The Blue Goose Inn provides 5-star hospitality services including overnight lodging and breakfast to travelers. We take pride in providing premium service to our guests in every way and looking to expand our staff to include an assistant. This will be a great opportunity to gain some hospitality experience as an aspiring innkeeper and receive mentorship from successful business owners. The hours are typically limited to daytime with less than 5 hour shifts, which would be ideal for a stay-at-home parent with children in school, with weekends and holidays on occasion.

Job Description:

The assistant innkeeper supports the Innkeeper/owners in a variety of day-to-day operational responsibilities on a part-time basis. The assistant innkeeper will greet guests and make sure that all aspects of the guests stay are outstanding. The assistant innkeeper will also have housekeeping & laundry duties. Other duties may include preparing breakfast for guests and some light groundskeeping and yard work. The work load is seasonal with more hours required during peak summer season and less during the winter.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Clean, sanitize, restock and turn-over guest rooms (housecleaning)

Do laundry including sorting, organizing, folding (no ironing)

Manage, mentor and train housekeeping and other support staff as needed.

Prepare, serve and clean-up breakfast based on planned menus

Greet guests, provide front-desk and check-in/check-out services

Handle guest requests, comments, upgrades and complaints in a professional and courteous manner

Manage operation in the absence of the innkeepers, able to respond to emergencies as they might arise

Promote a positive and fun work environment where guests and staff are treated with respect and are highly valued

Work closely with owners to stay updated on changing requirements

Qualifications & Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an individual who pays attention to detail, is a people pleaser and who works well under pressure. The assistant innkeeper must have a friendly demeanor and be willing to consistently provide 5-star service. Experience managing others in the hospitality field is beneficial. The candidate should be able to demonstrate leadership, mentorship and coaching for staff. The assistant must be also be able to follow complex orders and procedures with accuracy and reliability and take direction with confidence. Math and computer skills are necessary in order to process check-ins, guest upgrades and retail purchases, etc. An Island County Food Handlers card is required.

Physical Requirements:

Most of the duties of this job are done indoors in a smoke-free, drug-free and scent-free environment. While performing duties associated with this job there will be much standing, walking, climbing stairs, standing, balancing, bending, stooping and lifting up to 40 lbs during a shift, so minimum physical requirements are necessary. The candidate must be able to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and taste and smell. Interaction with guests will require speaking English and good hearing. This is a part-time position and does not include accommodations. The candidate should have reliable transportation and be available to work on Sundays or holidays as needed.
