MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of an Associate of Science degree; preference for experience in payroll/benefits, business administration, finance, and/or human resource management

Knowledge of payroll practices and procedures; human resource benefits technology and procedures

Skill in the use of computers and aptitude for learning computer applications and systems

Skill in oral and written communication, customer service and interpersonal relationships, including the ability to work effectively with frustrated, upset and/or difficult individuals

Knowledge of school district accounting procedures and state and federal rules

Ability to accurately explain and follow district policies/procedures and collective bargaining agreements

Ability to maintain accurate records

Ability to attend to detail and follow tasks through to completion

Ability to work effectively under pressure, payroll deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to organize time, set priorities, solve problems, and make effective decisions

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and outside agency personnel

Ability to collaborate with staff and provide excellent customer service

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This position manages benefits for district personnel. Responsibilities include meeting with new hires; explaining human resources benefits, collective bargaining agreement policies, procedures, laws, and standards; updating employment documents related to hiring, transferring, leave of absences, and termination; verifying payroll information, updating payroll records and entering information into payroll software; balancing and reconciling vendor billings with warrants; and ensure all procedures are in compliance. For the 2019-2020 school year, the Benefits/Payroll Specialist pay level begins at $27.47 per hour.
