Become a Foster Parent! Make a Difference!

Vacancy expired!

Have you ever thought about foster parenting or wondered what you can do to make a difference?

Washington state needs more people who would like to open their heart and home to a child in need.

Service Alternatives is a private agency that contracts with the state of Washington to license and support foster parents. Our agency primarily licenses treatment foster homes for children between the ages of 6 and 18 years old who require some additional support in order to be successful due to the trauma they have experienced. The support our agency provides treatment foster homes includes:

Dedicated support from your licenser to guide you through the licensing journey

Financial compensation for the care of the child (this is not considered income and foster parents must have another source of income to support their family before the foster care reimbursement)

Free trainings and support groups

Intensive case management support

Monthly respite

24/7 support

Regular staff support to help children work through trauma, work on goals and learn new skills

You can be licensed to care for a child full time or part time by providing respite. Respite usually occurs for a weekend and it's a break for both foster parents and foster children. Respite is a great way to get started and it's also great for people who do not have time in their schedule to care for a child full time.

Interested in learning more? Send me an email or text! I'd love to answer any questions you have. We also have virtual Foster Parent Information sessions coming up on May 18 at 12 pm and 6 pm. Let me know if you'd like the registration link!

There are many myths when it comes to foster parenting. Here are some of them!

I have to own my home

Nope! You can own or rent a house, apartment, condominium or mobile home. Your home must be a safe and healthy environment for a child

I must be married

Nope! You can be married, single or in a partnership

I am too old to be a Foster Parent

Nope! There is not a "too old." The only rule regarding age is that you must be at least 21 years old. Other than that you must be healthy enough to care for a child.

If I'm a foster parent I have no say regarding what child is placed in my home and when.

Nope! Not with our agency! You decide what age children you will be licensed for, review information on the child and decide whether or not to accept placement.

Thank you again for your interest!
