The role of safety assistant is to act as the liaison between the HR / Safety manager and employees, ensuring a safe work environment and prompt response to all accidents incidents and matters needing safety follow-up. Ability to work autonomously and assist in more complete HR duties, like posting jobs, coordinating safety committee meetings, typing safety minutes, conducting forklift, CPR and tractor training.

Primary Duties:

Experts in company-wide policies & handbook

Thorough understanding of FMLA & COBRA

Organize & assist with company-wide events

Maintain a happy company culture

Understand light duty, RTW, JA, KOS, and Stay at Work Programs

Coordinate forklift and tractor training

Provide TCP training to supervisors as needed

Support managers with documenting tardy, absences, performance issues and terminations

Participate in weekly department meetings and attends other meetings as needed

Grow your knowledge by attending SHRM seminars, OSHA classes, and LNI classes

Assist with scheduling interviews, coordinate hiring & on-boarding, new hire orientation and welcome new employees to the organization

Assists with employee recruiting, interviewing and, new hire orientation

Required / Preferred Qualifications:

Strong people skills

Strong problem-solving skills

Bilingual English Spanish required

Minimum high school education

Basic knowledge of human resources

Collaborative team member

Willing to earn your SHRM CP

High integrity and respect for confidentiality requirements

Basic competency in Microsoft Office®

Experience with LNI, safety, OSHA preferred

Safety

Maintain a zero-tolerance attitude for unsafe work practices

Participate, coordinate and host monthly safety meetings

Type safety meeting and post to communication boards

Ensure that quality, results-producing safety program in place and operating effectively at all times
