Excelsior Wellness Center is currently accepting applications for a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position will work within Excelsior's Therapeutic Recreation program providing direct client services in outdoor and indoor recreational activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
• Has, or has ability to obtain, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist credential.
• Experience in planning, scheduling and directing recreational and leisure activities.
• Ability to administer Standardized Recreation Therapy assessments.
• Ability to work with a diverse population staff and clients.
• Minimum one year experiencing working and/or volunteering directly with youth; prior experience with at-risk population preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment and make ethical and safe decisions.
• Ability to manage individual stress and perform essential job functions in a safe and professional manner
• Must be 21 years or older
• Able to pass criminal background check.
• Valid drivers license.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Assesses clients therapeutic recreation needs through observation, tests and collaboration with agency therapeutic recreations specialists and applicable employees.
• Creates recreation plans and programs that meet clients needs and interests.
• Encourages clients to acquire new skills and get involved in health-promoting leisure activities.
• Provides hands on instruction to program participants.
• Is aware of and consistent with the service components of Excelsior clients; seeks information as needed to ensure clients service plans are being adhered to.
• Administers and may be accountable for monthly recreation budget; including a monthly report detailing all expenditures.
• Maintains therapeutic recreation equipment and supplies as needed for activities; ensures supervisor is aware of any equipment malfunctions or needs.
• Attends workshops and continuing education events which aid in strengthening this area of the program.
