Vacancy expired!

The 501(c)3 non-profit research and human services charitable organization RPG Research (http://www.rpgresearch.com ) has multiple openings for webcast streaming and production technician positions.

RPG Research studies the effects of music and role-playing games, and their potential to improve lives, through our research, live streams, recorded media content, online training, and community programs.

To be considered for this position, please also complete the 2nd step application form on our website: https://w3.rpgresearch.com/volunteer/application-form/

This is a volunteer unpaid opportunity. Required to be on site in Spokane, Washington.

Reports To: Production Director

Days/Hours: Part-time, 4-8 hours/week. Some flexibility on which days and times.

RPG Research prolifically creates live streaming video and prerecorded video and audio content related to our Mission & Vision. We regularly steam on Youtube and Twitter, as well as upload media content to various other locations at last half a dozen times a week.

Most of our content is in our small studio, but some takes place at on-location sites. We are hoping in the future to move to a larger warehouse size studio.

Our media production department is small but rapidly growing, and the webcast streaming and production technicians play a vital role in the growth and quality of these programs.

We expect technicians will grow their skills in this dynamic and innovative environment.

This role has two core functions: on-site live webcast production, and pre/post production logistics.

These will include:

  • Webcast preparation and setup. This will range from camera and switcher setup to lighting, AV and sound, depending on the event.
  • Webcast production - direction and technical direction, plus webcast administration and monitoring. Additional on-site tasks include camera operation and AV operation.
  • Preparation of post-production deliverables, including archive videos and webcast analytics.
  • Refinement of our webcasting rigs: selecting, testing and integrating new equipment.

  • Assist the production team with the technical aspects of all productions including site survey, equipment pack-up, set-up, production, strike, and equipment storage.
  • Participate as an assigned crew member for various productions. Assigned crew responsibilities include all studio and field positions.
  • Develop production skills as camera operator, technical director, audio person, studio supervisor, teleprompter and lighting set up.
  • Assist producers in creation and coordination of program production.
  • Assist with studio set-up and facilities oversight.
  • Maintain and follow all production and post-production procedures.

  • Assumes other responsibilities as assigned. We see this role as the beginning of a process of growth, and expect that the Technician will quickly develop their skills.

This role would be a good fit for someone with 1-2+ years of professional (or relevant educational/internship) experience in AV or video production. Or a film student needing to acquire volunteer or internship hours.

There are many specific skills involved in producing a live webcast, and we don’t expect applicants will have them all right off the bat. We are more interested in making sure people in this role have the ability to acquire new skills quickly.

Strong candidates will have several of the below:

  • HD camera experience.
  • Broadcast switcher experience.
  • Live streaming experience.
  • Familiarity with fundamental audiovisual equipment.
  • Experience with major non-linear editing software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with streaming to Youtube and Twitch.
  • Experience with Open Broadcast Server (OBS).
  • Familiar with and possess advanced technical skills including camerawork, lighting, live streaming and non-linear editing.

More broadly: we like solving problems, and we like to work with others who do too. If you enjoy coming up with clever, thoughtful systems for getting important work done more efficiently, you’ll fit right in.

Candidates should include a resume and brief cover letter. S
