JOB SUMMARY: Develops complex state-of-the-art electronic hardware and firmware for products. With broad scope of responsibility, performs product and design development activities including interpretation and implementation of customer specifications. Programs microcontrollers. Provides existing product line support in design activities and/or modifications. May provide work direction and training to lower level professional and technical support staff. Interfaces with customers regarding design and technical issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)

  • Designs electronic circuits, components and integrated systems for products that conform to customer specifications and government agency regulations.
  • Oversees product development and assures timely completion of design, procurement, assembly, and testing.
  • Evaluates and monitors product design, and development to effect cost reduction through design for automation, assembly and component sourcing.
  • Provides technical assistance and support on inquiries and problems to customers, manufacturing operations, and other departments.
  • May oversee large product design efforts.
  • Leads efforts in introducing new designs into production.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in electronics or computer science, and five-seven years of progressive experience in electronic engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional publications, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, engineers, clients, and customers.
  • Applied engineering mathematics, statistics, and business and economic analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Familiarity with the following software: schematic capture packages, spreadsheet, database, and word processing.
  • Ability to develop and execute design of experiments.
