Find your future with us.Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is looking for a highly motivated Senior Systems Safety Engineer (Level 4) based out of Tukwila, WA .The selected candidate will function as a member of the P-8 Poseidon Systems Engineering Integration Team (SEIT), performing System Safety duties in support of fielded, production and test aircraft. The ideal candidate will seamlessly coordinate across multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), ensuring continued safe operations of this Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft. An exciting and unique aspect of this position involves the integration of new weapons capabilities to the platform and therefore the ideal candidate’s background will include familiarization with military munitions. Selection to join the highly-skilled P-8 System Safety Team will afford the selectee the great opportunity of not only furthering the advancement of U.S. Navy operations, but additionally those of our allied partners interested in strengthening maritime intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and search and rescue capabilities.This position allows some telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at the location listed.Position Responsibilities:Perform systematic and comprehensive assessments on system architecture, integrated design, software, support equipment, installation of subsystems and experiments to ensure relevant safety requirements are met.

Coordinate and collaborate across stakeholders (Engineering, Environmental Safety and Health, technicians, quality, leadership, and customers) to ensure safety is integral to all activities and operations.

Analyze software functions within design to identify linkages on which to base safety software criticality.

Sustain and support the development of System Safety planning, requirements, analysis tools and data packages.

Review engineering design specifications, test operations procedures, change proposals, deficiency reports, exceptions and/or deviation/waiver requests for potential flight/ground test safety impacts.

Participate in incident investigations and root cause/corrective action analyses as requested

Support preparation of presentations, analyses and reports for customer and safety review boards, System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs) and program design.

Perform systematic and comprehensive assessment of in-service safety to ensure consistency with MIL-STD-882E.

Document efforts of hazard analysis and risk assessments (e.g. safety assessment reports, hazard notification and hazardous material reports), analysis and control of hardware, software and chemical hazards.

Organize, plan, implement and monitor requirements, management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.

Resolve multi-functional technical issues.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

9+ years experience with aerospace System Safety Engineering requirements, design and analysis.

Experience integrating military weapons (munitions) systems into aircraft platforms.

Experience with weapons systems (munitions) integration activities including software safety requirements development and associated hazard analyses.

Ability to perform a variety of hazard analyses across the full product life cycle to include Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Software Requirements Hazard Analysis (SRHA), Software Level of Rigor Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Safety Assessment Report (SAR) and System Safety Risk Assessments.

Ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external partners.

Strong decision making and problem solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to be proactive, self-motivated, flexible and creative.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Familiarity with 737-800 aircraft.

Working understanding of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) principles.

Experience with aircraft System Safety analysis guidelines such as MIL-STD-882E.

Experience maintaining the Hazard Tracking System throughout the product life cycle.

Technical competency and skills with project management concepts/tools.

Typical Education/Experience:Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience).
