Shipping Supervisor

Blue Star Growers, a pear and apple packing warehouse located in Cashmere, Washington, is seeking a Shipping Supervisor to lead its shipping team. Under the supervision of the Production Manager, the Shipping Supervisor manages and ensures the daily, accurate, complete and on time shipment of fruit. He or she is responsible for coordinating with production, operations and sales teams to proactively manage multiple shipments and resolve shipping issues in an efficient, cost-effective manner.

Essential Functions

1. Develop, monitor and improve current shipping processes and procedures

2. Address and resolve shipping issues

3. Manage staffing to accommodate the changing production environment to produce the desired shipping results

4. Mentor, supervise, coach and hold accountable department personnel on proper shipping methods, policies, and procedures.

5. Maintain positive employee morale through effective communication, follow up and a results based team approach.

6. Detailed communication daily with the production, operations and other stakeholders to schedule fruit for haul loads, including timing, destination (i.e., domestic vs. export), variety, grade, size and package.

Required Education and Experience

1. High School Graduate or GED.

2. 3 years of shipping or similar professional experience required, preferably in leadership role

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees of the shipping department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within the department.

Work Environment

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently exposed to cold temperatures. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position is required to walk throughout the entire facility, including packing lines, cold storage rooms and shipping areas. This position is required to ascend and descend stairs. This position is required to lift and move items weighing over 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, year-round hourly position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with some overtime and weekend work required.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected. A valid drivers license is required.
