JOB DESCRIPTION: MAINTENANCE / CUSTODIAL

The Chelan County Historical Society, a 501(c)3 formed to operate the Cashmere Museum & Pioneer Village (the "Museum" and/or the "Museum & Pioneer Village"), is hiring for a permanent, part-time Maintenance / Custodial position. This role is an hourly, regular weekly schedule of 25-30 hours per week, with some flexibility required based on the Museum’s needs.

The Museum operates seasonally, however, and it closes usually from the end of October to the end of March. During this period, the schedule will be restricted to 10-20 hours per week.

NATURE AND EXTENT OF ASSIGNMENT

Basic Description: The Maintenance/ Custodial person is charged with maintaining the physical buildings of the Museum & Pioneer Village, plus the lawns and landscaping. This position reports to the Director of the Museum (the “Director”) and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees of the Museum (the “Board”). All Museum employment is at will.

Scope: More specifically, the Maintenance/ Custodial person is responsible for: keeping the buildings and grounds well maintained, repaired, and clean; managing the security of the facility, and acting as a point of contact for alarms or requests for attendance as directed; supervision of contracted employees or individuals with community service hours working on maintenance projects; other responsibilities as the Director sees fit.

Functions Performed:

Clean, repair, and maintain physical buildings including floors, restrooms and public lighting in the Museum and Village; other cleaning, repair, and maintenance as needed.

Keep landscaping trimmed and cleaned; mow and water lawns; clear away trash and debris; other landscaping chores as needed.

Assist Museum staff and event staff with after-hours facility use (may involve extended hours) as needed. Hours may vary with scheduled events.

Work cooperatively in coordination with the Museum staff, Board members, volunteers, and the City’s facilities department, as well as outside vendors, contractors, and visitors, when necessary.

Comply with all safety practices and operational procedures for the well-being of the staff, volunteers, and public visitors, and assist in maintaining the high standards of the Museum facilities and upholding the Museum’s mission.

RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY

Personnel: The Maintenance / Custodial person shall have supervision over contracted employees or individuals with community service hours working on maintenance projects.

Materials and Products: The Maintenance/ Custodial person is responsible for informing the Director of any materials or products needed to effectively perform his/her duties.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Maintenance / Custodial position reports directly to the Director and/or to a member of the Board of Directors who the Director appoints. The Maintenance / Custodial position is permanent, but will be reviewed at least once a year, after season close. The successful candidate will pass a background and Washington State Patrol check. All employees will observe the No Smoking policy in the Museum and Pioneer Village. Smoking is allowed in designated areas only.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

Essential Qualifications: This position requires the knowledge and skills to accomplish various maintenance, repair and janitorial tasks. The successful candidate will be effective, efficient, organized and detail-oriented, and a team-player who is also able to self-motivate, when necessary.

Preferred skills:

2 years college educational background and/or certifications in maintenance, repair, construction or other trade skills; a minimum of 2 years’ experience may be substituted for educational requirement; prefer experience in historic buildings;

Comfortable with computers and computer programs specifically Outlook email and Microsoft Word;

Collaborative mindset with strong verbal and written communication skills; and

Able to provide oversight and lead the work of volunteers, contractors and vendors.

COMPENSATION

Pay and Benefits: Starting at $15.00/hour, or higher, as commensurate with experience. The individual will be required to establish regular daily hours but maintain flexibility based on needs of the facility.

Hours of work: Regularly 25-30 hours per week, though this will fluctuate throughout the year. Possible extended hours due to specific deadlines or workload for events and exhibits, followed by lighter workload weeks, 10-20 hours per week, when the Museum is closed in the off-season.

No overtime is permitted. Annual cost of living increases may occur. The Museum follows Washington State law requirements for sick and paid leave. No medical, dental, or vision is provided.
