Position Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Programming is responsible for the development and coordination of the Facing Hunger Foodbank’s special programs (i.e., the Mobile Pantry, Senior CSA, SFSP, etc.). This position promotes community engagement that empowers the Foodbank to be a viable partner for all safety net initiatives in furtherance of the Foodbank’s mission and values.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) in the creation of new special programs and the strategic vision for both new and existing special programs;
  • Identifies underserved communities and works with the CEO, the COO, and the Director of Network and Member Relations to develop strategic goals for each County;
  • Oversees all operational aspects of special program implementation and works within each special program’s budget parameters;
  • Maintains accurate and timely records of special programs; prepares monthly reports detailing information such as time spent, individuals served, pounds distributed, etc.;
  • Works with the Director of Development and Communications to develop new fund sources for special programs;
  • Assists with grant writing and the preparation of grant reporting as requested;
  • Provides assistance to the Staff Accountant or other designated staff member with applicable financial activities and reports related to the Director of Programming’s responsibilities;
  • Assists in the growth, development, and utilization of volunteer services and programs in support of the Foodbank’s food program initiatives;
  • Participates in all food safety training classes and provides supervision and training of volunteers who are handling food products for packing back packs and other boxing to ensure full food safety compliance;
  • Works with the CEO to develop a policy and advocacy agenda and coordinates advocacy efforts and strategic alliances to support the Foodbank’s special programs as directed;
  • Represents the needs of the Foodbank’s special programs at both internal and external meetings, as requested;
  • Ensures that customer service to member agencies and partners is a top priority for those served by the Foodbank’s special programs;
  • Assists in formulating management policies and procedures;
  • Coaches and motivates employees under direct supervision and provides appropriate feedback and performance evaluations; and
  • Performs other related duties, as requested or assigned.

COO of the Facing Hunger Foodbank

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must embrace the Mission of the Foodbank;
  • Must have the ability to interact professionally and effectively with the CEO and the COO;
  • Must have the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations, community leaders, volunteers, Foodbank directors and other employees, and funding source representatives;
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Must possess budgetary management skills;
  • Must have the ability to maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume and sets a positive example for the Foodbank staff;
  • Must have the ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs;
  • Must have the ability to work on multiple projects at one time;
  • Must possess skills in organization, prioritization, and attention to detail;
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills; and
  • Must have the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a related field of work, volunteering, advocacy or public health
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
  • Must have a valid driver’s license from State in which employee resides
  • Must have and maintain a safe driving record
  • Must have a current or submit to a West Virginia Department of Transportation physical for operation of certain Foodbank vehicles
  • Must be able to master the use of the inventory software and bar code scanners within 3 months of starting position
  • Must pass ServSafe Manager Certification within 3 months of starting in position

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Office equipment: telephone, calculator, computer, copy machine, scanner, and fax machine.

Warehouse equipment: pallet jack, forklift, scales, ladders, step stools, walk-in coolers and freezers, inventory barcode scanners, infrared thermometer, and cleaning supplies, along with required personal protective equipment. [Training prior to use will be provided for warehouse equipment. Safety training and indicated safety equipment may be required and provided when the employee is performing job duties.]

The employee, from time to time, may lift and/or move objects weighing up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is indoor, generally, in an office setting, which may include shared space and stairs. Normally, within the office setting, there are no extremes in temperature, and the noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet. Lighting includes artificial and natural light. The employee in this position may be required to enter and assist in other areas of the physical plant, where noise may be loud, temperatures reach extremes, and dust/fumes from propane-fueled equipment may be present. Travel outside the office/physical plant is required for calling on donors, making public appearances or speaking engagements, or attending conferences, trainings, or meetings, as the need arises.
