Job Description

The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness is seeking an

Outreach and Mass Communications Internfor the 2021 Spring School Semester. This is a part-time unpaid internship with flexible hours. The Intern will report to the Operations Manager.

The Intern will research and compile contact information for behavioral health services, major networks, media outlets and the like across the country. The information compiled will be used for the intern to contact each organization via phone or email to provide information about The Alliance as well as assist in setting up a training on eating disorders if applicable. This opportunity allows the intern to be involved in the entire process from start to finish of this project so they can observe the outcome of their work.

  • Specifics:Unpaid remote internship with optional academic credit hours offered
  • Time Commitment:The internship requires a part-time commitment of 10, 15, or 20 hours per week.
  • Internship Duration:Spring Internships will start the week of January 10th 2021 and will run through the end of April.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researching and compiling data
  • Making phone calls following a script and/or sending emails
  • Providing information on The Alliance and eating disorders to the researched organizations
  • Submitting weekly update reports to the Operations Manager
  • Other administrative duties as assigned
  • Opportunities to attend virtual Alliance-hosted mental health information sessions and trainings
  • Minimum of three observations of Alliance-hosted support groups
  • (Optional) supervision with The Alliance’s Postdoctoral Fellows

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in communications, mass communication, public relations, or journalism/broadcasting or Undergraduate students pursuing a degree in psychology, mental health, public health, or sociology with an interest in non-profit organizations
  • Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Technical computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Comfortable working alone in a remote environment

Additional Information

Applications are accepted until filled. Positions are generally filled by the end of July, November, and March for the respective school semesters of Fall, Spring, and Summer terms.
