The Mobile Core Engineer plans, engineers, integrates, and troubleshoots infrastructure technologies with the customer-servicing network including: Evolved Packet Core Long Term Evolution, IP Multimedia Services Voice over Long Term Evolution, Evolution-Data Optimized core and all flavors of Messaging Services. This role contributes to ensuring operational readiness contributing to the Low Level Design based on architectural and high level design of the network platforms.

  • Implement new technologies and procedures for network engineering based on High level design documents to include performing lab testing and verification of the new technology.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of network protocols and end to end call flows and be able to utilize tools to perform, troubleshoot, and decode packet captures of data sessions and IP-based call flows.
  • Provide input for Scope of Work documents, Critical Information Question documents and Request for Proposal documents and technical discussions for the deployment of new services.
  • Participate in infrastructure deployment reviews by performing technical analysis.
  • Support implementations of network and system requirements monitoring performance and capacity monitoring to ensure adequate service margin and manage costs.
  • Support Network Element alarm definitions as part of the operational readiness of the network.
  • Perform network changes and testing of those changes into our production networks. Collaborate with the NPI team as needed to ensure appropriate knowledge transfer for implementations on New Product Deployments.
  • Develop and/or peer review "Method of Procedure" documents as well as update network documentation and provide handoffs and ensure knowledge transfers to operations
  • Interface with the vendors' technical staff on critical/escalated network and system and performance/capacity related impairments.
  • Work closely with equipment vendors, automation and analytics organizations to define and implement new alarming and metrics of new Network Elements or Services, and works closed with IS and other teams as required.
  • Provide input to Project Managers on technical deliverables, interfacing with leadership on the implementation, and the operational readiness of new technologies
  • Utilize analytics and develop automations that improve effectiveness, reliability, and shorten cycle time of new services deployments.


  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline or equivalent work or military experience.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience;
  • Strong understanding of the wireless business and industry.
  • Proficient knowledge of Evolution-Data Optimized, Evolved Packet Core / Long Term Evolution data core, IP Multimedia Services Voice over Long Term Evolution, Messaging Services, Over-the-Air services platforms, interfaces, protocols and call flows.
  • Experience with reviewing and understanding/interpretation of packet captures.
  • Experience automating tasks for operational purposes.
  • Strong problem solving / analytical skills and knowledge of analytical tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding network metrics that accurately reflect the current state of a given process or operation.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical infrastructure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Travel required.
