Summit Credit Union is expanding its IT team, opening up an exciting opportunity for a proven leader to join our team as an Applications and Systems Manager. In this role you will lead applications, software and systems activities for the credit union. Align applications and systems to IT and credit union strategies. Supporting digital transformation and digital workplace strategy continually evolve application portfolio and application delivery models. Align software and systems strategies as well as vendors to modern or concern delivery models. Oversee all activities that optimize the value, cost and risk of applications. Ensure the credit union is able to optimize its current technology investment to their fullest through technology leadership and facilitating business unit change to achieve adoption. Introduce new technology and business process change to support credit union strategic plans. Deliver applications and new technology in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Essential Functions
  • Leadership and Management
  • Drive, align and create strategy for technology areas in scope to meet objectives of the applications/systems strategy, IT, and the credit union.
  • Develop productive relationships with business leaders across the organization to influence how applications can enable new sources of value.
  • Foster an environment of continuous technology advancement and process improvement to build and maintain systems that meet the objectives of the credit union and IT
  • Provide direct leadership of team, support professional development, complete performance reviews, and ensure the team is meeting goals and expectations.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and create a culture of that enables Summit’s digital workplace strategy and builds new flexibility for the workforce
  • Demonstrate leadership in adoption, enablement, and influence to drive business goals
  • Involve business process management professionals to optimize work processes by rethinking, simplifying, and redesigning them.
  • Foster the development of business technologists that apply specialized technical skills to the digital workplace autonomously to deliver competitive business results.
  • Develop productive relationships with business leaders across the organization to influence how applications can enable new sources of value.
  • Define and enhance methodologies and practices for the application life cycle management in line with best practice and practical experience of continuous improvement.
  • Provide support and facilitate innovative and experimental application work to test new ideas with bounded cost and time frames.
  • Ensure that applications processes (including those of external service providers) are conducted in line with credit union social responsibility, environmental and technical policies and applicable standards and legislation.
  • Innovation, Strategy and Roadmap
  • Build and maintain key stakeholder relationship across the technology organization (IT) and the broader credit union ensure alignment of strategies with business objectives
  • Seek out innovative technology trends that should be brought into the workplace and gather digital workplace best practices by participating in continuing education, peer groups and industry events.
  • Support and facilitate innovative digital workplace applications and strategies to test innovative ideas to support the future of work.
  • Partnering with other areas of IT and credit union to develop solutions or implement changes that support Summit’s digital workplace strategy
  • Partnering with other areas of IT and credit union explore and improve how employees digitally engage with each other, as well as with members and business partners.
  • As new technology or new applications are introduced to drive business innovation throughout the credit union adapt systems to meet changing needs
  • Utilize organizational change management best practices to drive technology adoption.
  • Develop and publish roadmaps for technologies in areas of responsibility and align other technology roadmaps to team’s roadmaps
  • Application Governance, Strategy and Delivery
  • Oversee the assessment of the technical and business fitness of the application portfolio and their associated costs and risks.
  • Facilitate the application governance process to gain consensus on a prioritized set of measurable business outcomes that applications must support.
  • Work with stakeholders and the application governance council to define a prioritized set of business outcomes and application work to accomplish those outcomes within the limitations of the application budget.
  • Work with stakeholders to accomplish this application work in a way that improves the business and technical fitness of the application portfolio and minimizes its ongoing support costs.
  • Oversee the application organization's successful delivery of these business outcomes in partnership with business colleagues.
  • Oversee benefits realization to ensure that business outcomes are achieved.
  • Oversee support activities in conjunction with infrastructure and operations to ensure the applications perform well in production.
  • Oversee development of processes and tools in conjunction with infrastructure and operations to automate the handoff of code releases from development to operations (DevOps).
  • Working with the information security and other IT leaders to ensure that the organization's applications are effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.

  • Security, Risk Management and Compliance
  • Working with Information Security, internal stakeholders like Risk Management and IT Leadership define ensure security standards for applications and systems
  • Define and publish application performance metrics
  • Define and publish measurements relative compliance, security or other similar to demonstrate application systems adherence to credit union policy, law or regulation
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders perform regular review and audits of systems
  • In conjunction with other area leaders of IT, lead and direct activities of the System Administrators to deliver on system optimization and business process consulting objectives.
  • Measured Outcomes
  • Working closely with IT leadership and business leaders to develop internal and external measurements to demonstrate the effectiveness of the technical operations and their impact
  • Working closely with IT Security and IT leadership develop metrics that demonstrate the adequacy and compliance to credit union security objectives relative to areas within scope
  • Supporting a culture of transparency develop and publish metrics on overall team performance and system effectiveness relative to credit union objectives and norms.
  • Define success criteria and adopt methods to measure continuous progress against IT strategy, as well as for IT or credit union objectives both short term and long term
  • Implement and manage application life cycle management status reporting, metrics and benchmarks.
  • Job Specifications:
  • Four-year degree in IT related field or 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum seven years’ progressive professional experience and demonstrated strong technical acumen
  • Minimum of three years’ experience managing direct reports
  • Financial institution experience is a plus
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate effectively with technical staff, business stakeholders and senior management.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical people to enhance understanding and drive decisions that lead to positive outcomes.
  • Proven ability to collaborate, build relationships and influence individuals at all levels in a matrix-management environment (as well as external vendors and service providers) to ensure that segregation and overlapping roles are identified and coordinated.
  • Working knowledge of modern IT applications, operations, service and support organizations
  • Understanding of data processing, analysis and quality management tools.
  • Technical certification in industry technologies (Microsoft, AWS, etc.) can beneficial
  • Technical Background
  • Working knowledge of application delivery methods and architectures
  • Database and SQL
  • SaaS, Client/Server and webservices
  • Working knowledge of Azure, Active Directory, and management techniques for both on prem and cloud environments.
  • Understanding of multiple operating systems in server environments (Windows, Linux) and at the endpoint (Windows, Chrome, iOS)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Collaboration tools.
  • Understanding of Jira, Confluence and ServiceNow
  • Professional well developed interpersonal skills essential for professional interactions with all levels of credit union staff under normal and adverse circumstances.
  • Strong communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in systems support process.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Requires detailed, team oriented working style with the ability to apply critical thinking to resolve problems in new situations.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and management of multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.
  • Strong analytical, data-processing and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in process formulation and improvement.
  • Development and implementation of processes and policies.
  • Previous experience documenting complex workflows and transforming into automated solutions.
  • Knowledge of data security practices and procedures.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
