As a Desktop Support Technician, you must be well-versed in computer systems. The ideal candidate will be able to work diligently and accurately and will possess a great problem-solving ability in order to fix issues and ensure functionality. The Desktop Support Technician will provide support to computer users with a variety of daily issues. including:
⢠Setting up hardware and installing and configure software and drivers
⢠Imaging computers with proscribed format.
⢠Installing well-functioning LAN/WAN and networks components (servers, IPs etc.)
⢠Responding in a timely manner to service issues and requests
⢠Manage security options to maintain privacy and protection from attacks
⢠Setting up accounts for new users
⢠Testing new technology
⢠Training more junior staff members
IT Support job qualifications and requirements
Although a formal degree might not always be necessary in an IT Support role, basic qualifications can include the following:
⢠Excellent troubleshooting skills & technical, logical thought process
⢠Problem-solving skills and a keen eye for details
⢠Very good communication abilities
⢠Exceptional organizing and time-management skills
⢠Strong knowledge of computer systems and IT components
⢠Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles
⢠ASS/BSc/BA in Computer Science, engineering or relevant field is an advantage
⢠Relevant certifications (e.g. CompTIA A+) is an advantage
Also worth noting is the occasionally physical nature of the role as they may have to lift and carry heavy equipment.
