Summary:

The Youngstock Manager is a full-time position in which the individual oversees all youngstock operations from birth to birth (first lactation). This individual would also oversee the Youngstock Team of about 10 individuals. A successful individual would be one who is a hands-on manager with a high sense of self-motivation and attention to detail.

Qualifications:

Strong attention to detail

Ability to lift 100 pounds

Ability to manage, motivate and hold a small team accountable

Ability to multi-task and adapt to change

Tolerate working in varying cool and warm conditions

Awareness of your work environment to lead safe work practices

Able to work with Microsoft Office required

Preferred but not required experience with Dairy Comp 305 management software

Compliance with Animal Husbandry guidelines, enjoy working with animals, leading top quality animal care

Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred not required, the ask would be a willingness to learn Spanish

Experience is preferred but not required, education high school diploma or equivalent

Duties:

Work alongside team in maternity/calf/heifer areas being a hands-on manager

Communicate, resolve issues, provide direction and give feedback to team members

Provide reporting to Herd Manager and/or owners as needed

Attend manager meetings to provide youngstock insight and contribute with a mindset for the farm at large

Perform 90-day and yearly evaluations as well as lead team meetings and trainings

Consult with veterinarian and nutritionist as needed to make best animals care and feeding decisions

Troubleshoot auto feeders and determine when service calls are needed

Identify, move, group, and treat animals

Feed and care for youngstock including all prescribed health procedures

Provide oversight to measure growth and maintain records, dehorn calves, wean calves

Recommend culling or euthanasia needs

Oversee the transition of the calf from maternity area to calf facility

Create, maintain, and train employees in proper standard operating procedures

Initiate analysis for the youngstock areas to best determine treatment, feeding, breeding decisions

Identify areas for growth and improvement, set goals and work to meet them

Perform other related duties as assigned

Work Relationships:

Supervised by the Herd Manager. Works closely and maintains communication with feed team, mechanical and maintenance individuals. Provides direction and guidance to the maternity, calf and heifer team.
