JOB SUMMARY

As a Dance Instructor, you will enthusiastically lead members and participants through fun and engaging activities while teaching dance skills. Use the provided choreography and/or working with the Dance Choreographer to execute age appropriate dances that foster confidence and skill progression.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Build collaborative relationships with participants and parents to retain class numbers.
  • Instruct participants on proper form and encourage growth in dance.
  • Record participant progress on skills and report this to the supervisor
  • Complete class recommendation forms with feedback for parents in a timely manner
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and trainings as required.
  • Find substitute instructors as needed and provide a prepared lesson plan for them.
  • Take attendance on a daily basis.
  • Clean, maintain and monitor room for safety consideration and member service.
  • Plan and prepare for class including practicing of routines, proper set up, and clean up.
  • Support the annual dance recital by teaching or assisting backstage.

SKILLS AND TRAINING

  • Basic knowledge of tap, jazz, ballet, pom and hip hop skills and terminology is required.
  • One year of dance and/or related experience is required.
  • Instructors must be at least 14 years of age
  • Prior experience working/volunteering with children is recommended.

  • Critical Thinking and Decision Making: You are empowered to make informed decisions within the scope of delivering exceptional SMART service. Make these decisions based on logic, experience, and sound judgement. Be available to answer parent questions and appropriately handle complaints.
