United Cerebral Palsy is a local, non-profit organization providing Respite Services to families throughout Dane County who have children with developmental disabilities. Respite Providers offer families a break from their care-giving which allows them to work, run errands, or just allow their child to get out to socialize. Respite Providers also assist and teach daily living skills and provide companionship. Becoming a Respite Provider is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the Human Services field, though it’s invaluable to those in Nursing, Rehab Psych, Psychology, Pre-med, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Social Work, etc.
This part-time opportunity would entail working with an intelligent, witty 25 year old man. He will be home from college for the summer and is looking for a helper as he continues to work towards his goal of becoming a farmer. He would love to be able to get out of the house and spend his time gardening or volunteering with animals. He also enjoys singing, practicing instruments, going swimming, and seeing movies.
Hours for this opportunity include working Saturdays for a flexible 4 hours, starting around 1:00pm. This adult would benefit from a friendly, organized provider who will show up with a plan for the day. Duties for this position include positive mentorship, community engagement, establishing routines, transportation & having fun. Driving is required for this position and providers will have to go through UCP driving approval which involves having a clean driving record and proof of insurance.
