COOK:

ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION: Our mission is to bring out the limitless potential in young leaders through extraordinary experiences and nurturing relationships.

POSITION MISSION: Provide a safe and healthy atmosphere for the entire camp community by working collaboratively with the food services team to prepare fresh, nutritious food on time for each meal.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

Prepare and cook food for three meals per day as the menu indicates, utilizing safe food handling techniques.

Set up food, supplies, and utensils for family-style dining.

Ensure storage of food and leftovers at proper temperature.

Partner with the Food Service Manager to maintain correct documentation of Summer Food Service Program compliance.

Maintain an awareness of food service inventory, and submit order requests to the Food Service Manager as needed.

Clean and maintain all food-preparation and storage areas.

Communicate schedule and job tasks effectively with all other food service staff.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is compensated at a rate of $730 per week, pre-tax.

Our summer seasonal staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis and are classified as exempt, seasonal employees.

All meals are provided during camp sessions, and on-site, shared housing will be provided for staff who live outside the local Boscobel area.

REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS

Availability: assigned shifts of 10-12 hours per day on a typical day, and additional hours when necessary.

The camp kitchen season runs from late May to August 14th, 2022, with possibility of working retreat weekends in the spring and fall of 2022.

If living on site, must be able to live in shared staff housing.

Must be at least 18 and/or have a high school diploma or GED to apply.

Current age-appropriate CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification (PEAK will provide during staff training if needed).

A valid and up-to-date ServSafe Food Handler certification (PEAK can support in attaining).

At least 6 months of experience in a commercial kitchen.

REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS

You will report to the Food Service Manager.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds (with or without assistance).

Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 12 hours).

The camp environment is often hot and humid. You must be able to work in a commercial kitchen setting for sustained periods of time without air conditioning.

Position requires working weekends and evenings, with time off in between camp sessions.

CAMP COUNSELOR:

ORGANIZATIONAL MISSION: Our mission is to bring out the limitless potential in young leaders through extraordinary experiences and nurturing relationships.

POSITION SUMMARY: To provide a safe, inclusive, and meaningful experience for campers by supervising all aspects of daily camper life and facilitating, participating in, and supporting campers through camp activities.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

Set the tone and guide a group of young people on a journey of self-exploration, challenge, and fun for 11 days at a time. (3 standard sessions are 11 days each. We also have shorter sessions like Teen Camp and Family Camp.)

Live in a cabin with a co-counselor and 8 campers, and assume responsibility for the physical and emotional wellbeing of campers during all on-duty hours (20-22 hours per day, as scheduled).

Provide active supervision and attention to ensure campers are encouraged, safe, active, accepted, well-rested and generally cared for.

All meals are provided during camp sessions. Counselors are expected to sit with and engage with their campers at meals, and to eat the camp food provided with the campers.

Guide your campers through their fear, frustration, lots of laughter, bumps, bruises, learning through failure and moments of absolutely amazing accomplishment.

Assist in preparation of and actively participate in camp programming including evening activities, camper choice time, bus duty, and more.

Support campers in setting and achieving their goals for the camp session, and write participation notes for each camper to acknowledge their achievements.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is compensated at a rate of $600 per week, pre-tax.

REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS

Must be able to reside in shared housing on the LVC resident camp property in Boscobel, WI starting with two weeks of staff training in June and ending after the last camp program lets out in mid-August.

Must be at least 18 and/or have a high school diploma or GED to apply.

Camp Counselors report to their assigned Village Coordinator

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

The camp environment is often hot or rainy. You must be able to work outside for sustained periods of time without air conditioning.

Position requires standing, stooping, sitting, walking long distances in hilly terrain, and occasionally lifting up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.

Position requires working weekends and nights, with time off in between camp sessions. Camp days are often long and at times require late night camper support. Staff will have daily scheduled breaks.

BOATING INSTRUCTOR:

Position Mission: To facilitate the delivery of programming that offers growth and consistent progression for youth during the summer experience.

REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS

The Boating Instructor reports to the Camp Program Manager and provides supervision to counselors and program assistants assigned to assist in lake aquatics programming.

POSITION AVAILABILITY

You will be expected to work hours from 7:00am to 9:00pm on a typical day and additional hours when necessary. The standard work week is 6 days. You will be required to live at resident camp (Lake Valley Camp) during the summer. You will share living quarters with other employees.

You will also be expected to attend a mandatory two weeks of staff training at the Resident Camp prior to the start of the first summer session.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY

You will ensure that participants and employees are in a safe and healthy environment while participating in your program area as well during general camp activities. This includes the physical and emotional environment.

You are responsible for overseeing all aquatic programming at the lake. In addition to that oversight, you will create, plan and implement all Boating programming including theme weekend activities.

You will support cabins when additional staff members are needed.

You will train staff in safe canoeing practices and procedures; emergency procedures, inventory of equipment, and other necessary information. You will provide regular feedback to counselors and program assistants while they are working in your program area.

You actively participate and assist in the preparation and implementation of camp, including All Camp activities, staff training, bus duty, inventory/clean-up and more.

You can remain calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and to ensure the safety and well-being of participants and staff.

CERTIFICATIONS

You hold a current instructor rating in boating from a nationally recognized certifying body or current lifeguard training from a nationally recognized certifying body or another acceptable certification or license.

You hold a current certification from a nationally recognized provider in first aid, including training on bloodborne pathogens.

You hold a current certification from a nationally recognized provider in age-appropriate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) that includes the use of breathing devices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

You have training in water rescue and emergency procedures in lakes and rivers.

You can provide documentation of previous experience, knowledge and skills in teaching and supervising canoeing activities.

Previous work experience at a summer camp is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

It is important that you be physically and mentally able to meet the challenges of navigating and working in a remote, natural resident camp setting. Summer camp jobs are seasonal and hours are irregular, including nights and weekends. It is important to have the ability to maintain a positive attitude under adverse conditions (i.e. hot weather, rainy weather, long days, campers waking you up at night, etc.). You will work outside for sustained periods of time.
