Madison Greenhouse Store, a very small, independent garden shop, is looking for several part time employees. We specialize in exotic house plants, pottery, potting soil, organic fertilizers, Non-GMO seeds & organic insecticides. It is a very hands-on position. We are very active throughout the day working on various projects, . There is not only heavy lifting up to 50 lbs, but also sometimes stairs and ladders involved, as we all work together to process deliveries, haul around pottery, and sell items to customers. While the work can occasionally be physically demanding, we have a great time and it is a fun and pleasant atmosphere.
We are lucky to have wonderful customers who are exceedingly nice and polite. It's really a great retail job that gives you the opportunity to share your love of plants with curious and excited customers. The position requires an above average knowledge of plants. Whether you have a passion for and experience with houseplants, outdoor perennials, vegetable gardening, greenhouse production, or horticultural studies, we are welcoming plant enthusiasts of all types to our team.
We spend much of our time advising customers on how to not kill their plants and help them to select new plants for their homes. We all share the responsibility of taking care of the plants in the store, which generally is just scheduled watering, but also sometimes includes troubleshooting when problems arise. There is a lot of room for creativity in the store, as we collaborate and work independently on potting project creations, merchandising and signage as necessary. In order to join our team, we ask that you have a green thumb, a willingness to learn, and an attention to detail.
Shifts available include W-F 9:30 am-6:00 pm M-F 2:30 am - 7:30 pm S & S 9:30am - 4pm
It is strongly preferred that candidates are able to work multiple days, ideally in a row, to facilitate continuity and communication between the staff. Hourly pay, biannual bonuses, and a very generous employee discount are available.
