Position Summary

Revenue Auditors fill a variety of roles and are assigned to work with specific tax areas: Corporation, Excise, Individual Income, Pass-Through Entities (Partnerships and S-Corporations), Sales/Use, Nexus, Income Reconstruction.

Return Auditors examine tax returns, correspond with taxpayers for additional information and prepare audit work papers and reports from an office location. Little to no travel is required.

Books & Records Auditors conduct audits of individuals and a variety of business entities independently and may assist higher level auditors in performing large, complex audits. Many audits are initiated and conducted at the taxpayer’s business location. These positions require some overnight travel.

Salary Information

Starting salary is $25.85 per hour, plus an excellent benefits package that includes 3 weeks of annual vacation, sick leave, excellent health and dental benefits, and participation in the fully funded Wisconsin Retirement System pension plan, which is considered among the best in the country! Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

With satisfactory performance, there will be two $1.50/hour salary increases: one after each of the 1st and 2nd years.

You may be eligible to telecommute after one year of satisfactory performance.

For positions hired in Glen Ellyn, IL and Edina, MN, you may qualify for a hiring bonus up to $3,000.

Qualifications - Please address the following in your letter of qualifications and résumé

Qualified candidates will have one of the following:

completed or in the process of completing (within 6 months), a bachelor's degree or advanced degree with a major in accounting or taxation from an accredited institution, or

commensurate professional experience auditing accounting records and/or procedures to verify accuracy/conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), or

a combination of academic preparation and professional auditing experience

In addition to the above, qualified candidates must have effective verbal and written communication skills.

Job Details

The department will conduct a background check, fingerprint check and tax compliance check prior to making an offer to hire. Interview results may be reused in accordance with the State of WI interview reuse policy.
