The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Fisheries Management is recruiting to fill two Fisheries Technician- Advanced positions. The positions are located at the Kettle Moraine Fish Hatchery and the Brule Rearing Station. The candidate hired at the Brule Rearing Station will be expected to live onsite in hatchery housing. It is expected that sometime in the future the position at Brule Rearing Station will be moved to the Les Voigt Hatchery. There is not onsite housing at the Les Voigt Hatchery or the Kettle Moraine Fish Hatchery.

Position Summary

The Fisheries Technician- Advanced is a fish culturist working with cold or coolwater fish species at the assigned Hatchery. The responsibilities of this position require a high level of knowledge of fish culture, fish diseases, complex electrical and mechanical systems, environmental monitoring, and written and oral communication skills and accurate record keeping. The Fisheries Technician- Advanced will participate in rearing and maintenance of fish and fish rearing units. This position reports to and receives general direction from the Hatchery Supervisors. This position may also assist in loading and distribution of fish. This position will be added to the hatchery alarm call list.

Salary Information

Starting pay is $18/hour for this position ($37,440 annually). Pay on appointment for current or former state employees may vary based on the applicable provisions in the State Compensation Plan. Current State employees applying as a transfer applicant will require additional approvals for a pay increase. This position is in Pay Schedule / Range 06-13.

A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Job Details

Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for this position include knowledge and experience in ALL of the following:

- Cold and/or cool water fish culture and fish health.

- Computer software, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, Outlook), or

related software.

- Basic water chemistry testing and parameters related to fish production and health.

- Fish health monitoring, disease control, and environmental health assessments.

Best-qualified applicants will also have the following preferred qualifications:

- Knowledge and experience with bio-security plans for water supply and/or hatchery operations.

- Knowledge and experience with community or public educational outreach.
