100Typical Working ScheduleMonday-Friday, 7:45am to 4:30pm; occasional SaturdaysPosition Summary The Community Archivist works with the University Archivist and Records Manager to manage the daily operation of the University Archives and Area Research Center. This position provides research and reference services, including instruction and outreach; processes and catalogs collections; assists with student worker hiring and supervision; serves as a liaison to academic and administrative departments.Responsibilities Reference and Research Services 50%

o Provide reference and information literacy sessions to the university and the public.

o Develop user guides and instructional materials related to the archives collections.

o Publicize the holdings and services available in and through the archives to the university and community, including outreach services to local and regional genealogical and historical organizations and other community groups.

o Develop outreach programming and displays, including social media.

o Contribute to library initiatives such as instruction, outreach, and social media as appropriate Process and Catalog Collections 15%

o Collect and preserve local public records, manuscripts, and special collections, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Historical Society.

o Accession new collections and compiles inventories.

o Create finding aids for processed collections.

o Create original bibliographic records of collections and archival holdings. Assist University Archivist and Records Manager in hiring, training, and overseeing student assistants 15%

o Participate with interviews and recommend students for hire.

o Participate in regular performance evaluations of student workers.

o Assign and oversee tasks or projects, ensuring quality control. Serve as liaison to academic and administrative departments. 10%

o Communicate regularly with assigned academic and administrative departments regarding library services and resources.

o Participate in collection development activities for assigned departments, including selection and deselection of library materials.

o Teach information literacy sessions. Professional Service 10%

o Serve on library, university, UW System, and other professional committees as elected and appointed.

o Foster communication and contribute to a collaborative work environment.

o Stay professionally active and maintains knowledge of current issues and trends in the archives field and academic libraries at large.Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesRequired

Master’s degree in library and information science with a concentration in archival management by start of appointment

Knowledge of archival processing techniques

Knowledge of emerging technologies in libraries and archives and how they impact the needs and expectations of users

Knowledge of cataloging standards, RDA (Resource Description and Access), and EAD (Encoded Archival Description)

Ability to plan, manage, and oversee projects

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingPreferred

Experience processing archival collections

Library or archives reference experience
