The Broadcast engineering team is responsible for receiving incoming signals from numerous providers and transmission paths, decoding, decrypting, and uncompressing the signals. Management and maintenance of the contribution side signal path and delivering the broadcast ready signal to compression. The team maintains all equipment in this signal path including IRDs, decoders, splicers, DAs, hardware based signal systems, and SDI routers. Broadcast Engineering supports Operations by maintaining the monitor system of set top boxes, hardware probes, and servers.

The Broadcast Engineer II is responsible for the design, deployment, and support of systems that distribute broadcast audio and video in both SDI and IP technologies in and across multiple broadcast facilities. Team members become subject matter experts across deployed software application solutions. This position works in a team environment alongside other television broadcast disciplines to ensure E2E signal integrity and quality. A qualified candidate will exhibit project leadership working with various team members to accomplish objectives and key results (OKRs).

Responsibilities:
  • Design, plan, and deploy, complex television broadcast systems and signal paths which support company objectives and goals.
  • Research and recommend vendor solutions.
  • Troubleshoots complex signal paths and exercises corrective actions or workarounds to keep signals on air.
  • Working knowledge of video over IP including 2022-6,2022-7, 2110, and MPEG transports.
  • Analyzes and confirms conformance of baseband and compressed MPEG signals to meet industry specifications.
  • Develop dashboards to report status and alarms of video systems.
  • Write documentation.
  • Develops maintenance procedures to maximize performance of deployed systems.
  • Work directly with equipment manufacturers in development of specialized applications.
  • Work directly with team members and other company teams to resolve issues.
  • Lead a team to build and complete projects.
  • Trains other team members on systems and workflows.

Basic Requirements:
  • Strong Computer Skills: Google suite, MS Office, and the like.
  • Familiarity with computer programming, scripting, and configurations.
  • Operational understanding of IT Networking, Firewalls, and Fiber optics.
  • Operational understanding of multicast video on an IP network.
  • Knowledge of standards such as Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE)and Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC).
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and signal flow diagrams.
  • Flexibility with regard to work schedule. Must be able to work various shift schedules including overnight and weekends.
  • Must be able to maneuver through tight and low ceiling spaces. Occasionally needs to crawl through computer floor and above ceiling cable grid areas.
  • Lifting - Ability to move or lift 50 lbs. Frequently moves various equipment into and out of their assigned racks.
  • Must have the ability to distinguish gradations in color.
  • Willingness to view and support television signals that include adult content without objections.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, have excellent time management skills and the ability to recall extensive technical knowledge quickly.

Qualifications:
  • BA/BS or MA/MS preferred plus 3-5 years of progressively related experience.
  • Must be able to solve complex problems in a timely manner.
  • Must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Experience with deploying and integrating broadcast video and audio components typical in Master Control environment. i.e Servers, switcher, routers, monitors.

Working Conditions:
  • Occasionally must be able to work in tight spaces or low ceiling. i.e, under computer floors.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear.
  • Often working on strict deadlines or within live production environments.
