JOB TITLE: Technician

DEPARTMENT: Materiels

REPORTS TO: Director of Materiels

JOB SUMMARY

Materiels Technician is the main processor of exchange carts, department requisitions, delivery of supplies, and tagging of billable supplies with patient charge stickers. Will monitor inventory levels and places orders for inventory stock and special requisitions, updates pricing files. Keep storeroom in neat and orderly condition. Perform bi-annual inventory. Batch receipts and issues, enter data into the computer, check in and put away freight, prepare freight for shipment, has a good understanding of the computer system.

High School diploma or equivalent desired

EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of medical supplies, inventory control, receiving, shipping and stocking preferred.

SKILLS

Basic to Intermediate computing, print shop, and basic office machine skills preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Capable of learning and retaining complex Materiels Management computer inventory system to facilitate the entry of receipts, issues and pricing updates as required or requested.

  • Will use various methods to check Central Stores inventory levels for items to be ordered and monitor reorder points. Generate computer purchase orders and be proficient with EDI (electronic data interchange) software interface with MM system to place orders with various vendors.
  • Assist with requests to help match Purchase Orders to Invoices to assist accounting personnel.
  • Gather needed information and place special orders requested by departments by various methods to include MM computer system, fax, phone, and various internet purchasing methods as requested.
  • Monitor computer price updates and make pricing changes to computer system as requested.
  • Have a basic knowledge on Purchasing contracts and how they relate to overall medical supplies and the Materiels process.
  • Maintain proper stock levels and make recommendations for changes in departmental exchange cart PAR levels based on departmental usage. Notify Materiels Supervisor/manager if sudden change in supply usage is detected.
  • Responsible for the cleaning, disinfection and maintaining logs for mobile inventory carts/containers.
  • Study all departmental requisitions to include online requisitions for proper unit of measure, reasonable quantity request and make necessary changes before filling requisition.
  • Investigate medical supplies received to determine their billable status and apply accurate patient charge barcodes in a timely manner and stock locations accordingly.

  • Learn locations of all Stores supply categories to include location of approximately 75% (1500) separate line items to promote timely filling of requisitions and PAR levels.
  • Receive and perform reconciliation of freight with Purchase Orders, packing slips, and manufactures reorder numbers to insure accurate receipts. Report discrepancies and also inspect and report freight damage to the Materiels Supervisor or Manager and freight carrier. Prepare out-going freight.
  • Must exhibit good communication skills, work well with co-workers and all hospital departments, follow complex detailed verbal and written instructions to complete assignments or tasks.
  • Operates digital duplicating devices, power cutters, folders and other devises as required to produce quality in-house forms and maintains inventory levels of stocked in-house forms.
  • Required to safely operate hydraulic freight lifting devices and battery/hydraulic powered mobile cart transport devices.
