JOB SUMMARY

The QA/QC Tech/Mechanical Engineer is responsible for performing quality assurance/control functions, including but not limited to: Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), i.e., mechanical, optical, laser, probes, and white light/NDT/UT/MT testing of components, documentation and inspection report generation, calibration of test equipment and fixtures, and document control of inspection records and templates. Key responsibility is to minimize reword and quality defects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform field machine audits.
  • Support the strategic direction of the shop and field organization throughout the division.
  • Demonstrate leadership, integrity, teamwork, quality and urgency in the performance of one’s functions and responsibilities to ensure the goals of customer satisfaction, market dominance and profitability are achieved.
  • Day-to-day inspections and quality control of multiple shop/field projects, including CMM/NDT/UT/MT testing.
  • Computer aided drafting (CAD) responsibilities to provide support for company functions including but not limited to reverse engineering, process improvement and project execution.
  • Training, safety, project documentation, inspection report generation, capital equipment suggestions and customer interaction with ongoing projects.
  • Respond to client or customer requests for service in a timely manner.
  • Interact with the Technical Service Group to source required technical information.
  • Interact with other shop departments, and/or field departments, for executing and supporting projects.
  • Effective job execution to meet established quality of workmanship and minimizing rework.
  • Identify, propose and implement new technologies to further enhance the QA/QC department.
  • Engineer, develop and design solutions to resolve known problems identified by our customers to our Technical Service Group.
  • Interact with Caterpillar product group engineers to insure compliance with manufacturing standards associated with DSS manufactured parts for Caterpillar.
  • Identify, propose and implement new technologies to further enhance QA/QC department.
  • Position ensures effective job execution to meet established quality of workmanship and minimizing rework.
  • Out of town travel.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

· Participate in the Continuous Improvement process, making sure new ideas are generated, worked and implemented and any roadblocks are eliminated.

· Initiate and conduct process improvement dialogs with Supervisors, Team Leads and team members.

· Drive root cause analysis and resolution on all forms of loss, i.e., safety, quality, production, rework, etc.

· Adhere to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, work execution, safety, and MSHA regulations in performing assigned duties.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Licensed driver in good standing.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ QA/QC experience in repairing large mining or other industrial equipment.
  • CAD software experience, i.e., AutoCad, Polyworks, Solidworks.
  • Report experience with Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Project/Outlook
  • Working knowledge of CMM/NDT/UT.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of removal and repair of components of large mining equipment.
  • Good human relations skills to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department.

PREFERRED

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ Caterpillar Dealer experience or maintenance repair in similar work environment.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

· Prolonged walking, sitting and standing

· Frequent sitting, walking, bending squatting, stooping, pulling or climbing

· Able to walk on unlevel ground with many slip, trip and fall hazards

· Exposed to adverse work conditions, i.e., water, mud

· Work at heights

· Use of hands for fine motor skills

· Use of all necessary personal protective equipment
