The Financial Accountant directly reports to the Assistant Vice President of Finance and Controller for assisting in the effective control over all financial assets, liabilities, income and disbursements of the College, and supervision of an appropriate accounting system to maintain proper controls.
The Financial Accountant maintains the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records.
Other duties include completion of special projects as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Finance and Controller.

These are the job duties for required of the position.
Responsible for assisting in the business and financial management of the College and the administration of the accounting system and financial recordkeeping system.
Assure that all recording and reporting requirements are met for management and regulatory agencies as required by law and general fund accounting practices; and assure that accounting operations are effectively and efficiently performed.
Assist students with account balance inquiries and tuition payments. Research student account balances when discrepancies are found and re-bill student accounts as needed.
Assist in the purchasing process from order request to receiving to payment. Process budget and journal entries as required.
Manage the asset module and tagging process and assist with the annual inventory verification process.
Assist with the daily processing and input of college foundation transactions
Assist departments with questions related to their budgets.
Analyze existing systems and processes; identify greater efficiencies and improved internal controls opportunities; incorporate new regulations; recommend solutions that may require policy changes or new processes.
Develop, recommend, and implement new or revised policies and procedures for better controls and efficiencies. Participate in critical analysis of existing systems and processes, identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities.
Prepare financial analyses and specialized reports as requested.
Serve as subject matter expert for the reconciliation of student information and financial aid systems to the financial system.
Reconcile assigned accounts, including receivable accounts, scholarship accounts, and clearing accounts. Identify and correct discrepancies.
Assists AVP of Finance/Controller in the preparation of monthly journal entries.
Assists AVP of Finance/Controller with yearly financial audit.
Assists AVP of Finance/Controller in ensuring that expenses and general ledger entries are recorded correctly and in conjunction with the approved budget.
Assists AVP of Finance/Controller with all other financial and management reports as required.
