Job Summary

Sheridan College seeks a dynamic leader with a vision for innovation in library services and resources to assume the role of

Director of Library Services and Digital Literacy. Reporting to the Dean of Arts & Sciences, the Director will join a leadership team committed to ensuring that Sheridan College’s Library sustains a culture of innovation, inclusiveness, and excellence in service to students, faculty, and staff, and the communities we serve.


A successful candidate will be an innovative leader with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills and a vision for the role of information literacy, technology, student success, and education at community colleges. They will be an agent of change, sustaining library programs that are relevant to undergraduate education while cultivating high-impact resources in emergent fields relevant to an evolving learning community.



Supervisory and Management Responsibility:

  • The Director will supervise library staff including students, interns, full-time, and part-time professionals

Dean of Arts & Sciences


Education/Qualifications

  • ALA accredited master’s degree or higher in Library Sciences or an equivalent
  • Significant experience in library services, including experience in leadership roles with impact on institutional success and student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge:

  • A deep knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in an academic library, including outreach, instructional technology, academic instruction, information literacy, scholarly communication, information access, open educational resources (OER), and digital scholarship;
  • A deep understanding of and a passion for the role of technology and library services in teaching and learning, including digital scholarship;
  • An understanding of the needs and aspirations of the College’s teaching and learning through active consultation with faculty, administrators, and support staff.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Ability to manage and retain high-preforming professionals, and build a positive and creative organizational culture within the library;
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate and implement a strategy for the library that supports teaching and learning;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies across the campus community
  • Lead the Library as a hub of academic life, innovation, and student success
  • Actively assess and incorporate current developments in the field of library and information sciences for the campus community
  • Lead resource acquisition for the Library
  • Represent Sheridan College to various external constituencies
  • Lead library service workshops for two- and four-year academic programs (faculty and students) to include OER, information technology, and academic writing and research
