ABOUT SHERIDAN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Sheridan Memorial Hospital's Hospice of the Big Horns strives to provide services that promote quality of life for terminally ill patients. When treatment goals change from cure to relief of symptoms, Hospice offers physical, emotional and spiritual care to patients and their families. Neither hastening nor postponing death, Hospice enhances the quality of life that remains. Nurses, home health aides, social workers, therapists, clergy, physicians and volunteers are all part of our interdisciplinary caring team. We are adding a PRN (as needed) Hospice Spiritual Caregiver to the Hospice team.

JOB SUMMARY

Supports the Hospice mission and philosophy by providing spiritual care services to Hospice patients, caregivers and significant others on an as-needed, contracted basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures the delivery of spiritual care services to patients/caregivers/significant others.
  • Contacts patient/caregiver within 5 working days of the referral.
  • Provides spiritual and/or religious support as defined in the care plan or requested by patient/caregiver.
  • Collaborates with patient/caregivers and Hospice team to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient quality Hospice services by participating in team meetings.
  • Documents all patient/caregiver contacts in medical record within 5 working days of the contact.
  • Participates in patient staffing and/or clinical meetings as scheduled.
  • Responsible for contacting patient’s personal choice of clergy to inform the clergy person that Hospice is involved. Coordinates interactions between clergy and family as needed.
  • Provides spiritual counsel for patient/family when requested.
  • Observes Standard Precautions; avoids contact with anything that may be contaminated by body fluids.
  • Complies with all applicable organization policies and procedures.
  • Prepares annual report of pastoral services and presents that report at annual meeting.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Education/Experience/Licenses

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required.
  • Satisfactory completion of seminary or other course of study authorized by a recognized religious denomination.
  • Ordained/Licensed Clergy person, required.
  • Education in accordance with the standards of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education or the Association of Catholic Chaplains, or two years’ experience as a hospital or military chaplain preferred.
  • Comfortable in an inter-denominational setting.
  • Graduate of a Hospice Volunteer Training
  • Valid state driver’s license and reliable automobile, current automobile insurance and be willing to operate personal car necessitated by nature of job.

Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
