GENERAL DESCRIPTION:



The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. WYDOT is currently seeking a Guardrail Crew Supervisor in Sheridan, Wyoming, to supervise the structure crew's work activities while being a productive member.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.


  • Supervises the work operations of the structure crew for District 4.
  • Schedules the crew in accordance with workload and travel.
  • Counsels subordinates in questions or disputes.
  • Works as a crew member while ensuring proper traffic control and safe work procedures are followed during maintenance operations.
  • Operates heavy equipment (8-yard Dump truck, motor grader, dozer, hot plant, distributor) to perform various maintenance duties.
  • Coordinates with Area Foremen and performs all work associated with snow removal operations.
  • Ensures work is completed properly and in accordance with policy and standard plans.
  • Inspects highway assets for defects.
  • Collaborates with other WYDOT departments regarding work scheduling, inventory acquisition and consolidation, and work completion, including occasional construction project inspection for guardrail installation.
  • Prepares various reports and forms needed for work reporting, budget tracking, and material inventory control.
  • Tracks inventory and material usage, procurement of materials and supplies within budgetary constraints.
  • Completes equipment and material requests for the crew and road section.
  • Assists in screening and hiring applicants.
  • Trains new crew members on proper work procedures and safe equipment operations.
  • Participates in budget discussions.


Qualifications



PREFERENCES/AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference may be given to applicants with a current Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements prior to employment.

Must have the ability to obtain a Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT.
Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion of Defensive Driving.
Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification.
Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of maintenance standards and practices and standard plans
  • Knowledge of purchasing procedures
  • Knowledge of long-range planning
  • Skills in personnel management
  • Skills in team building
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize office equipment such as computers, calculators, and telephones.
  • Ability to read and interpret standard plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of state highway maintenance and highway construction standards.
  • Knowledge of specifications, standard plans, policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and traffic control standards.
  • Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standards.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for the proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of Safe Work Procedures, First Aid and CPR, and Material Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in completing tasks.
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials Response Procedures.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education & Experience Substitution:

3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Specialist I


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License


OR


Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Engineering)

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Specialist I


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License


Necessary Special Requirements



PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Individuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls, at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with a response time of no greater than 30 minutes.
  • Acceptance of an appointment to this classification signifies that the individual is aware of this requirement and will comply.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand/sit and operate equipment for long periods of time.

  • Individuals must report to the department Shop within 30 minutes of receiving a call.
