JOB SUMMARY

The Exercise Physiologist works with patients challenged with cardiovascular, pulmonary and metabolic diseases to enhance quality of life, manage health risk and promote lasting health behavior change. The Exercise Physiologist develops and administers programs designed to enhance aerobic endurance, cardiovascular function, muscular strength and endurance, balance and range of motion. The Exercise Physiologist educates their patients about exercise testing, program components, clinical and lifestyle care for control of chronic diseases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participates in the implementation of the individualized treatment plan with specific focus on exercise prescription and patient progress.
• Responsible for safely overseeing the exercise component of rehab program including equipment orientation and exercise prescription.
• Actively participates in the case management of patients by communicating and facilitating interactions with physicians, staff and other departments, providing thorough documentation per regulatory requirements.
• Administers diagnostic stress tests, health risk appraisals, and/or fitness testing and monitors patient response.
• Administers cardiac and pulmonary monitors.
• Evaluates new clients, develops exercise programs that appropriately address client goals, and assists with prescribed therapeutic exercises and thoroughly educations patients on their exercise program, health needs, and risks.
• Basic EKG interpretation.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education / Experience / License and Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, or Kinesiology
• BLS certification, required.
• ACLS within six months of position start date, required.
• Recent and/or relevant experience in cardiovascular or related field, required

Additional Skills

• Ability to assess and evaluate individuals for change in condition. Ability to plan and organize effectively.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to implement physical therapy treatments and rehabilitation activities.
