JOB SUMMARY



The Nursing Team Leader is responsible for the assessment, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of safe and effective patient-centered care. The Nursing Team Leader will facilitate and mentor others to grow professionally and advance their knowledge and skills. In addition, the Nursing Team Leader will continuously assess unit needs to ensure adequate resources for current and upcoming shifts by collaborating with other departments, clinical and nonclinical, to coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients in a timely manner. The Nursing Team Leader will act as a physician liaison for the unit. Finally, the Nursing Team Leader will demonstrate professionalism at all times and will uphold standards of practice by holding team members accountable for continued compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meets all of the job requirements of a Registered Nurse.
  • Attends daily safety huddle at 0830.
  • Maintains accurate changes in staffing in scheduler including trades, sick calls, and requests off.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing daily throughout shift and adjust as needed.
  • Initiates call needs due to sick calls, census, etc.
  • Rounds on all patients to ensure that service expectations are met, and develops action plan to address patient concerns.
  • Ensures appropriate hand-off using SBAR when staff leave floor for lunch, education, etc.
  • Constantly assessing areas of improvement , addressing things to make nurses work flow better.
  • Will be in floor staffing mix 1-2 shifts a week and other shifts will be working on assignments as delegated by Manager.
  • Available to assist staff during times of high census, high acuity patients or emergencies.
  • Coaching staff and redirecting behaviors during shift.
  • Staff rounding to address concerns, complaints, and ideas.
  • Facilitate communication in staff/staff, staff/physician conflict.
  • Precept nurses in areas to enhance competency level.
  • Assist with skills stations and yearly competencies.
  • Chart Reviews as assigned by Department Manager.
  • Ensure that all staff are competent in completing appropriate reports (RL solutions, infection control, work-orders with follow-up).
  • Ensure completion of shift duties checklist.
  • Completion of Patient Safety Readiness worksheet, weekly, and resolve EOC issues identified and report to Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education / Experience / License and Certifications


  • Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • BSN, preferred.
  • BLS certification, required.
  • ACLS certification, required within 1 year position start date.
  • NVCI certification, required within 1 year position start date.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in department-specific area, preferred.
  • Specialty certification in related area, preferred.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit assignment.
  • Precepts other NTL’s to the position as needed.

Department Specific Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • Current ACLS certification within one year of position start, required.
  • NVCI certification within one year of position start, required.
