DESCRIPTION
Balance team leadership and coordination with a high level of technical knowledge and machine programming skills. Direct and oversee the day-to-day activities of a team of CNC Machinists and Operators. Examine production schedules and deadlines and determine how to best schedule employees and activities to complete jobs safely and efficiently. The CNC Lead provides training and direct, hands-on support in programming and overseeing CNC machine operation. Produces machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies. Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage schedules and ensure that work is completed according to expected delivery dates while also troubleshooting and programming CNC machines and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency.
Coach, mentor and develop staff, including overseeing new employee on-boarding and providing development planning and opportunities.
Lead employees to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.
Maintains records, prepares reports, and composes correspondence relative to the work.
Estimates costs of material to accomplish assignments.
Manage Engineering and Production requirements to provide the proper balance of completing assignments in a timely manner.
Plans machining by studying work tickets, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters, interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads.
Designs and creates jig and fixture details and holding devices.
Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to international standards.
Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Measure performance consistent with the departments KPI's; Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost.
Maintain accurate records using Microsoft Word and Excel and/or Google documents and spreadsheets
Process and manage Work Ticket Transactions as the work is being completed
Oversee employee involvement in Weatherby's ERP system to ensure that the work being performed is being clocked in/out.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee employee time and attendance

Read and analyze charts, work tickets, production schedules, and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.

Respond to employee needs, production issues, work availability, and other employee issues
Model appropriate behavior and lead by example
Provide honest, unbiased, and constructive feedback
Communicate professionally and effectively
Supervise safety activities in work area and throughout the value stream.

Assist in training employees
Assist employees with minor first aid

Identify and implement solutions to potential safety problems
Continuous improvement projects and activities.
Support implementation of new equipment, procedures, and processes
Sustain lean manufacturing tools and systems
Own KPI measures and progress in areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost
Facilitate solutions of daily production issues

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Education & Experience
15+ years of machining experience, or Machining certification from an accredited trade school, High school diploma, GED or minimum 3-5 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

Excellent English language written and oral communication skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and barcode labels.
Technical Capacity
Must have experience with tolerances (+/- .001)
Must be familiar with Okuma, Fanuc, G-codes, M-codes, lathes and mills.
Must be able to understand and properly use inserts, fixtures and tooling.
Machine and manufacturing processes knowledge.
Material properties knowledge.
Tool & Die design/build experience
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
