QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree

2. Meets all certification requirements

3. Trained in Math Recovery

4. Participates in required, advanced professional development program

5. Demonstrated skill in working with individuals in need of remediation

6. Skillful in assisting students in the transfer of learning to application

7. Mathematics concentration preferred

REPORTS TO: Building Principal(s)


JOB GOAL: To remediate mathematics difficulties in elementary students so they may function to the best of their ability in the regular classroom. The teacher will supervise and instruct all identified Title I individuals placed in his/her educational environment and perform any other duties as permitted by Title I Policy.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Teaches students in the district math intervention framework.
  • Provides in-depth diagnostic mathematics evaluations and structures programs of remediation for students.
  • Assesses potential students using district-approved assessment instruments.
  • Assesses and works closely with each student, so as to teach him/her more effectively and to evaluate his/her progress more accurately.
  • Maintains a healthy, positive climate for learning with children in the mathematics area, taking special care to assist the students to develop mathematics scaffolding skills.
  • Maintains good discipline and a cooperative atmosphere, while helping students to develop self-direction and self-control.
  • Assists students in understanding learning objectives.
  • Provides opportunities for application of mathematics fundamentals.
  • Cooperates with all others assigned to work with the students and strives for direct interaction between the classroom teacher and intervention teachers.
  • Assists in selecting mathematics placement for students, when appropriate.
  • Evaluates and selects special materials and equipment for mathematics instruction.
  • Helps develop materials to support the math intervention program.
  • Provides consulting services to administrative and instructional personnel regarding special mathematics problems.
  • Confers with parents concerning students’ special mathematics concerns.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in mathematics intervention and education through professional reading and, study and participation in professional activities.
  • Shows professionalism by demonstrating a commitment to professional standards in problem solving and decision making, and by serving as an advocate for students.
  • Seeks supervisory and peer input on performance and responds to feedback in a cooperative manner.
  • Develops, communicates, and maintains a clear teaching schedule that meets district expectations.
  • To work cooperatively with the regular classroom teachers of targeted Title I students.

  • To plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.

  • To create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.

  • To assess the accomplishments and needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of appropriate district and Title I personnel as needed.

  • To confer with colleagues, students, and parents on a regular basis and as prescribed by Title I policy.

  • To share responsibility for providing additional educational services for Title I students and parents, including such activities as the Take-Home Computer Program or Math- and Geo-Safari.

  • To assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules influencing students in school, life, and conduct; and, for the classroom, to develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

  • To assume the teacher’s legal responsibilities in the supervision of students.

  • To assume an equitable share of responsibility associated with the teaching profession, which may be assigned by the principal and which may relate to committee work, student supervision, or other planning and professional assignments which fall within Title I and district policy, administrative regulations, and state law.

  • To maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by Title I and district policy, administrative regulations, and state law.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Approximately 185 days; salary and fringe benefits to be set by Board of Trustees.


EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
