NEWS WRITER - JOURNALIST.

Freelance / Contract position. Part time.

Seeking a freelance / contract NEWS WRITER - JOURNALIST - REPORTER - for a weekly news outlet.
Work from home and the field. Your schedule and your time is flexible.
We are seeking someone who has experience working in a newsroom or as a writer, editor, or journalist for a print media outlet such as a community newspaper.
Our content focus is hyper-local community news, club and school news, calendars, lifestyle and events, and news and information of interest locally. You should also have very good editing, copy editing, and re-write skills as much content is supplied by press releases and submitted content of varying degrees of quality. Detail oriented (making sure facts are correct, dates, times, locations, verification, etc). You will need to generate / edit a lot of copy every week (about enough to fill about 8 to 10 standard web or blog pages). You should also be able to take good photos for use on website, social media, and print.
Must be "up to speed" on computer use, content management (such as blogging interfaces, so that you can upload news stories), and social media platforms.
You need your own car and cell phone (allowances for both).
