    Duties

    Summary

    These are permanent, career-seasonal positions. Career-seasonal positions are guaranteed to work at least 6 months but not

    more than 50 weeks per year and include all the benefits of permanent employment. The nonpay/nonduty time for this positions

    is expected to be early April for two weeks, but can vary due to project requirements or weather conditions.


    Responsibilities

    Primarily performs Electrician duties in the residential and commercial building sector, installs, programs, and maintains intrusion/fire/assess control panels, assists other trades persons in installation and maintenance of other utility systems, offer technical advice to co-workers, possess the skills to modify/repair wall board, and the knowledge to prevent weakening building structures while installing electrical circuits.


    Must have computer training or experience to access the Park's intranet and the internet to conduct research, order materials, and use job specific software programs.


    Must have a working knowledge of local and federal building codes, regulations, and rules.


    Must be knowledgeable of safety rules and regulations in the construction trades.


    Must have the expertise and knowledge to identify the hazards on a construction project that pertain to the electrical trade. And "engineer out the hazard" to you and your co-workers.


    Must be able to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.


    Must be able to identify materials and equipment needed to complete assigned tasks.


    Must be able to troubleshoot and install electrical circuits, install load centers and services, and do load calculations.


    A valid Journeyman Electrical License from Montana, Wyoming, or Idaho or equivalent is required.

      If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.

      You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1-2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

      You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

      Highest previous rate authorized for pay setting purposes.

      Possession of a valid WY, MT, or ID State issued Journeyman Electrician License is required to safely perform the duties of this position. If you do not possess a state of WY, MT, or ID Journeyman Electrician License, you must have comparable current certification in another state and be able to obtain a WY, MT, or ID State Journeyman Electrician License or higher within 6 months of entry on duty date.

      You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.

    Physical Demands: The incumbent makes installations from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms where frequently parts of the systems are in cramped places. This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions. Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds arid occasionally over 50 pounds. This work includes, but is not limited to installing or replacing: deep cycle batteries for solar systems; generators in remote areas using hoists and bars; boiler components in basements; motors and fan coil components in lofts and attics and aerators and other large equipment from sewage treatment ponds and facilities. The incumbent will be required to work in cramped areas such as attics, crawl spaces and ventilation shafts which require crawling to install, troubleshoot or repair electrical components. The may be exposed to electrical shock, spark and arc hazard and health hazards in sewer treatment plants.

    Working Conditions: The incumbent works outside in all types of weather; often works inside in dusty, dirty arid occasionally greasy locations where there is a possibility of cuts and bruises.

    Area Information: This position will be located at park headquarters in Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park.Elevation at Mammoth is 6,200 feet. Temperatures vary from an average of 70 degrees Fahrenheit in summer to sub-zero at times in winter. A school is available, with kindergarten through 12, in Gardiner, Montana, five miles north of headquarters. Free bus transportation is provided for school children between Mammoth and Gardiner. Many community facilities such as stores, a drugstore, day care, motels, and restaurants are available in Gardiner. A medical clinic is available in Mammoth. All other services are available within 55 to 75 miles from Mammoth. Housing may be available through the Yellowstone National Park bid process.

    Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
