    Duties

    Summary

    This is a permanent, career-seasonal position. Career-seasonal positions are guaranteed to work at least 6 months but not more than 50 weeks per year and include all the benefits of permanent employment. The nonpay/nonduty time for this positions is expected to be from February 28 - March 13, 2021, but can vary due to project requirements or weather conditions.

    Responsibilities

    • Works under the division of Facility Management
    • Conducts condition assessments on park facilities including buildings, trails, housing, signs, campgrounds, thermal walks, and other structures
    • Work requires long periods of driving, standing, walking over rough surfaces, crouching, reaching, and hiking up to 15 miles
    • Involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions including cold/hot, rain/sun, and a variety of park features such as animals, rivers, mountains, and thermal areas
    • Creates work orders and cost estimates in the Facility Management Software System (FMSS) work order tracking database
    • Completes the annual review, closeout and setup of routine work orders
    • Develops scope of facility projects in the Project Management Information System (PMIS)
    • Provides technical support for FMSS users in the area
    • Ensures accurate records of park staff are entered into FMSS
    • Presents reports to management from FMSS data and makes recommendations for asset management
    • Actively participates in coordinating FMSS trainings in the area

    Qualifications

    All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-06/22/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

    To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

    EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: recording facility information (e.g., inventory and condition data) in a facility management data tracking system, using computer based programs to track and report work accomplishments; analyzing or evaluating data and reporting to management; training other personnel in the various aspects of a data tracking system including creation, tracking and reporting work. You must include hours per week worked.

    -OR-
    EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a Masters Degree or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited educational institution concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position, such as business management, finance, parks and recreation management, engineering, or construction or in another field of study directly related to the duties of this position. You must include transcripts.

    -OR-

    Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above six months of the specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 (50 percent of the required experience) and 27 semester hours or 41 quarter hours of appropriate directly related graduate education (50 percent of the required education). You must include transcripts.

    Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

    If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

    Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

    Area/Housing Information: This position will be located within the Facility Management and Operations Division in Yellowstone National Park. Elevation at Mammoth is 6,200 feet. Temperatures vary from an average of 70 degrees Fahrenheit in summer to sub-zero at times in winter. A school is available, with kindergarten through 12, in Gardiner, Montana, five miles north of headquarters. Free bus transportation is provided for school children between Mammoth and Gardiner. Many community facilities such as stores, a drugstore, day care, motels, and restaurants are available in Gardiner. A medical clinic is available in Mammoth. All other services are available within 55 to 75 miles from Mammoth. Housing is not available for this position. Housing may be available through the Yellowstone National Park bid process.

    Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary. Visits to job sites or travel to conferences may be required. Occasional hiking, climbing, or crawling to perform asset inspections may be required.

    Working Conditions: The work is normally performed in an office setting. Travel to various site locations within the park to perform asset inspections may be required.

    The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
