The Bear Valley Community Association is currently seeking candidates for the following positions for its summer camp program, Camp Bear Valley!

Camp Program Staff (must be 18+)

Camp Child Care Association (must be 21+)

We are a very active day camp program biking, hiking, swimming and going on field trips to exciting places around and out of town are some of the fun things our staff get to do with the kids! If you like to be outdoors in all elements, be active, have fun, and are dependable, this could be a great fit for you! We are searching for dependable, caring and energetic staff who enjoy working with elementary aged children ranging from 5-13 years olds in a positive and enthusiastic manner.

Camp Bear Valley operates out of Ocean View Elementary School, M-F, 7:00am-6:00pm. The position would begin May 28th and go until Monday, August 5th. Time off is very limited, as it is only 9 weeks long and we highly depend on staff for ratio and consistency. All new hires are required to successfully pass a background check, and must be available to obtain the required health & safety and mandated reporter training, as well as obtain or update CPR/First Aid certification, prior to beginning employment on May 28th.

Job Descriptions

Program Staff

Camp Program Staff will work in groups of 2-3 with a designated group of children, and are responsible for working together to provide a fun, welcoming, safe and fun environment during the summer. House keeping duties are required to ensure camp site stays clean and organized.

Duties Include;

Monitoring and ensuring the overall safety and well-being of the children at and away from camp.

Getting groups of children safely to and from lessons and activities, by means of biking, walking, and bus .

Ability to participate in multiple indoor and outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking , walking long distances and biking.

Ability to work well in a loud, upbeat, fast-paced environment.

Some planning of activities, such as small group field trips, art activities, science experiments and cooking activities may be required.

Greeting and communicating effectively with children, families, staff, and administrators on a daily basis.

Preparation of breakfast and snack for the children may be required.

Ability to work well independently or in a group setting.

Ability to communicate with other staff members in a professional and friendly manner.

Act as a positive adult role model by displaying appropriate adult behaviors and practicing sound judgment.

Adhere to and maintain all licensing standards, applicable regulations, and BVCA Policies.

Minimum qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must be available for all 9 weeks of camp.

Must be able to pass a background check and complete required trainings if hired.

Must have reliable transportation.

Able to lift at least 30 pounds.

Capable of bending, kneeling, running, lifting, jumping, biking, swimming, playing, and being on your feet for long periods of time is necessary.

Compensation

This position begins at $11.00 and goes up depending on education and experience.

Child Care Associate

Child Care Associates will provide support to the Administrators as needed on a daily basis with things such as opening & closing duties, child files, staff mentoring, following BVCA policies and procedures while adhering to licensing requirements, and have positive contact and interactions with all camp children, staff, and families.

CCAs will work in groups of 2-3 with other program staff, with a designated group of children, and are responsible for working together to provide a fun, welcoming, safe and fun environment and camp during the summer.

CCA'S will be required to also attend a training and orientation on Friday, May 24th.

Duties Include;

Supervising groups of children to ensure daily safety and well-being at and away from camp.

Assist the administrators in the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities that are consistent with participants' needs/abilities, including the enforcement of established behavioral expectations/disciplinary procedures.

Maintain positive relations and communicate effectively with school personnel, program staff, administration, general public and child/families.

Support special program assignments such as parent events, and program wide events.

Keep supervisors informed of all program matters pertaining to children and staff.

Help mentor and guide program staff to adhere to BVCA polices and procedures, as well as licensing requirements where applicable.

Ability to participate in multiple indoor and outdoor activities such as swimming, hiking , walking long distances and biking.

Will perform opening and closing duties as needed, as well as any other house keeping duties as required to ensure a clean and organized camp site.

Ability to work well in a loud, upbeat, fast-paced environment.

Greeting and communicating effectively with parents of the children and staff in the program on a daily basis. May be required to communicate child behavior issues/concerns to parents per administrators request.

Preparation of breakfast and snack for the children may be required.

Ability to work well independently or in a group setting.

Ability to communicate with other staff members in a professional and friendly manner.

Ensure timely completion of all administrative and program paperwork and reports if necessary.

Participate in administrator meetings, and other meetings and training opportunities as assigned by admin.

Provide for the maximum possible health, safety, and well-being of all persons involved in the program. Assist admin in emergency evacuations & drills and be familiar with emergency preparedness and protocols.

Maintain child files/records in accordance with established procedures, ensuring confidentiality.

Demonstrate a positive attitude, exemplifying BVCAs values, vision and mission in all actions, communications and relationships.

Act as a positive adult role model by displaying appropriate adult behaviors and practicing sound judgment.

Adhere to and maintain all licensing standards, applicable regulations, and BVCA Policies.

In the absence of staff, provide coverage as needed.

Other related duties as assigned to support administration and camp needs.

Minimum qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Highschool diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of twelve college credit (with at least 3 credits specific to early childhood education) hours in education, youth development or related field, or willingness to acquire required college credits; OR obtaining or already completed and earned a degree in education.

Experience in program planning and working with youth (preferably school-age children) in a group and semi-structured setting.

Demonstrated leadership ability; minimum of one (1) year prior experience in staff supervision and management preferred.

Available all 9 weeks of camp.

Must be able to pass a background check and required trainings prior to start date if hired.

Reliable transportation.

Able to lift at least 30 pounds.

Compensation

This position begins at $14.00 and goes up depending on education and experience.
