Summary of Position:
The Host/Hostess is responsible for creating a welcoming and organized dining experience for guests. This role involves greeting guests, managing reservations, seating guests efficiently, and ensuring smooth communication between the front-of-house and other departments. The Host/Hostess is expected to provide excellent customer service, answer guest inquiries, assist with special requests, and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the host station. Additionally, this role requires managing guest flow, assisting with payment processes when needed, and supporting the overall guest experience in line with hotel and restaurant standards.
Key Responsibilities:
o Guest Greeting and Farewell:
o Welcome guests promptly with warmth, professionalism, and an understanding of fine dining etiquette.
o Thank departing guests personally, using their names when appropriate, to ensure a memorable final impression.
o Reservations Management:
o Accurately take and manage reservations, confirming details to ensure a seamless guest experience.
o Anticipate guest needs by noting special occasions, dietary preferences, or seating preferences in the reservation system.
o Seating Coordination:
o Seat guests with attention to the flow of service, guest preferences, and seating charts.
o Provide clean, crisp menus and offer a brief overview of the dining experience upon seating.
o Waitlist and Flow Management:
o Manage waitlists efficiently, providing accurate wait times and updates while ensuring guests feel attended to.
o Monitor dining sections to balance seating for optimal service delivery.
o Special Guest Requests:
o Handle special accommodations such as highchairs, accessibility needs, or celebrations with grace and attention to detail.
o Coordinate with servers and kitchen staff to prepare for large groups or special requests.
o Communication and Coordination:
o Serve as the communication hub between the dining room, kitchen, and bar, ensuring guest needs are met promptly.
o Relay information regarding special menus, dietary restrictions, or events to the appropriate team members.
o Service Excellence:
o Exhibit a polished demeanor and professional appearance suitable for a fine dining environment.
o Proactively assist guests with inquiries, resolving concerns gracefully and escalating issues to management when necessary.
o Station Maintenance:
o Maintain an immaculate host station, ensuring it is stocked and organized throughout the shift.
o Monitor and contribute to the cleanliness and readiness of dining areas, ensuring they meet fine dining standards.
o Opening and Closing Duties:
o Execute opening and closing procedures with precision, ensuring all areas are guest-ready or properly closed.
o Event Support:
o Assist with the setup and coordination of private dining events, large parties, and special occasions.
o Other Duties:
o Support team members as needed to provide a seamless and elevated dining experience.
o Exhibit good personal hygiene and maintain a professional appearance throughout the shift
o Perform other duties as directed by management
Minimum Education
o High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred
Minimum Experience
o One year restaurant host/hostess experience preferred
o An Anchorage Compliant Food Handler’s Card certification required
