Job Description: Part-Time Bartender at The Whale's Tail, Hotel Captain Cook
Position Overview: We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Part-Time Bartender to join our team at The Whale's Tail, our vibrant lounge and nightclub within the Hotel Captain Cook. This position is perfect for someone who thrives in a lively nightlife environment and has a passion for mixology and customer service. The role is for Friday and Saturday nights, from 5 PM to 2:30 AM with plans to expand hours in the near future.
Key Responsibilities:
o Coordinates with Food & Beverage Director regarding Preferred Hotel Standards
o Coordinates with Executive Chef for policy and procedures regarding food preparation and presentation
o Coordinates with Accounting regarding posting procedures, and cash accountability
o Coordinates with Liquor room for ordering liquor, juices, fruit and bar snacks
o Coordinates with Security department regarding safety and security procedures
o Coordinates with Director of Operations, Maintenance and Housekeeping as necessary
o Collect payments and make change for guests
o Cleans and sets cocktail tables if the cocktail server is unavailable
o Directly supervises cocktail servers, bar backs and other bar staff
o Ensure bar is set with (shot glasses, martini mixing glasses, strainer, bar hook, wine key, muller, spoon, cutting board, paring knife, etc.)
o Inspect room for safety hazards and items needing repairs
o Prepare and serve beverages (upsell premium beverages) and serve food or appetizers when available
o Maintain cleanliness of room (counters, glasses, bottles, shelves, mats, coolers and everything behind the bar or used by bartender)
o Monitors the guest and has the right to refuse service, cut off or “86” a customer for any reason if they feel someone is out of line or intoxicated
o Responsible for picking up their bank from Front Desk and ensure sufficient change on hand
o Respond to guest requests and complaints regarding the lounge
o Ensure bar is stocked with adequate supply of all items (unlock and inventory liquor, cutting fresh fruit, making juices, stocking napkins and straws, putting out bar mix, snacks, etc.) with enough products for the day and night shift
o Take guest(s) order, upselling appetizers, soups, salad and specials
o Tracks all liquor inventory
o Answer telephones and assist guests with all special requests
o Exhibits good personal hygiene habits and always keeps a professional appearance
o Available and prepared to work scheduled shifts
o Other duties as assigned
Minimum Education:
o High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum Experience:
o Prefer 1-year bartender experience in a restaurant bar
o TAPs Card certification
o Food Handler’s Card certification
Skills/Abilities:
o Demonstrated experience in bartending, with a solid grasp of diverse drink recipes and bartending techniques
o Professional, well-groomed appearance, adhering to the no visible facial piercings or tattoos policy with a polite, positive demeanor
o Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
o Demonstrates integrity, honesty, and a cooperative attitude
o Excellent reasoning and problem-solving abilities
o Strong teamwork skills and a genuine desire to serve
