Position Purpose

The human resource generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties and works closely with the administrator and senior staff to execute the company's recruiting, selection, training, performance evaluation, and separation programs. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, and employment law compliance.

This position is highly concerned with ensuring and maintaining the ongoing compliance of employment and personnel related processes in accordance with all applicable federal and state standards.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

• Administers various human resource plans and procedures for all personnel; assists in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.

• Administers the performance management program.

• Oversees all aspects of the new hire process, ensures new employee onboarding training is completed according to regulatory and policy requirements.

• Performs background checks on all new hires, maintains the organization's roster with the State of Alaska Background Check Unit.

• Files necessary reports as required; and maintains other records, reports and logs to conform to EEO regulations.

• Conducts recruitment efforts for all non-exempt personnel, volunteers and temporary employees; conducts new-employee orientations; monitors career-pathing program; and writes and places advertisements.

• Handles employee relations counseling and exit interviewing.

• Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.

• Maintains company organization charts and the employee directory.

• Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of the organization in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures toÂcontinually improve efficiency of the company and services performed.

• Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.

• Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.

• Forward recommendations to the Administrator as appropriate for the final decision on all major items.

• Protect the confidentiality of all employees and customers at all times.

• Notify the Administrator of any major maintenance problems that occur within the office.

• Act in the best interests of the employees and customers in any emergency situation.

• Ensure the daily routine operation of the office (e.g. mealtimes, weekly tasks.) is maintained in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are M-W, 8:00am-4:00pm.

Travel

Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Preferred Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree and three to five years of ÂHR experience, or a master's degree in HR management and two years of experience in the HR field, or seven years of experience in the HR field, or any similar combination of education and experience.
