Job Title: Tribal Police Officer (TPO)

Department: Chickaloon Tribal Police Department

What We Are Seeking: A self-motivated professional with prior POST or the Alaska Police Standard Council Police Academy training and one year of patrol experience, preferably in rural areas in Alaska. The Tribal Police Officer (TPO) is part of a team of full-time TPO’s and Reserve Officers who enforce Tribal and federal laws. TPO’s respond to calls for service, assists elders, detect, and investigate crimes. TPO’s are primarily responsible for preventing crime, upholding laws, and protecting the public through patrolling in particular areas and completing assignments from their supervisors. TPO’s participate in community safety programs, which are preventative methods to deter crime. This position will have opportunities to learn and participate in Ahtna Dene’ culture and language.

Additional Responsibilities:

Investigate crimes, gather evidence, and safely apprehend suspected law violators.

Observe and respond to various situations or emergencies.

Follow rules, guidelines, and protocols.

Complete case paperwork, produce internal reports, and follow administrative procedures.

Foster public relationships and liaise with emergency services, community groups or individuals.

Attend and provide evidence in court upon request.

Participate in CVTC meetings and trainings.

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

1 + years of police experience is required.

Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and leadership skills; including the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, and multi-level of external contacts.

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational abilities.

Ability to function well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Proficient verbal and written communication skills.

Superb time management skills.

Certificates and Licenses Required: A valid Alaska Driver’s license is required for this position and the ability to be insured on CVTC’s vehicle insurance policy.

Drug Testing and Background Check: This position is subject to pre-hire and random drug testing. This position requires you to complete and pass a pre-employment state and federal background check as a condition of employment. Additionally, a psychological evaluation as well as a polygraph test with successful passing of both are required.

AN/AI Preference: As allowed in P.L. 93-638, preference for employment will be given to Alaska Native and American Indian peoples.
